You have the section cut so just needs and Offset Surface at 0.3mm (clearance) above the face,

thicken the surface by 3 mm, and you can cut to size.

Hi all, I'm trying to create a 3D printable plastic mount that clips onto the top of this drone. I have obtained a 3D model of the drone from grabCAD.com .

Since the top of the drone is curved, I simply want to create a 3mm thick plastic clip that follows along the path of the drone. I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I feel like a "Loft" would be a very cumbersome and imperfect way because the accuracy/resolution of a Loft is only as good as the number of planes you are willing to make.

I hope the attached image helps explain what I tried doing and why it doesn't work well.

And here is the CAD model from grabCAD: https://grabcad.com/library/dji-phantom3-1

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

maybe attach your .f3d file with the drone already in it so we don't have to go rootin around for it.

Hey thanks so much for taking the time to read the post, and sorry I didn't upload the F3D file. I should have done that.

I have attached the F3D file to this post and re-attached the image where I try to describe the problem and desired result.

Thank you so much!

Best regards,

Arjun

Wow!!!! Thank you so much laughingcreek and davebYYPCU!!!

This is exactly what I was trying to figure out! laughingcreek's F3D file and davebYYPCU's explanation were both very helpful in learning how this works. I'm so glad to have learned this because I was worried it was a far more complicated process.

Really appreciate your help as I'm trying to make a drone mount that will carry away my wedding shoes before the bride's side can try to steal them. In Indian culture, this is a wedding tradition where the bride's side tries to hold the groom's shoes for ransom for cash, and he cannot leave the wedding venue with the bride unless he gets them back. Usually it becomes a tug of war mess, but I'm trying to do something unique and fun. (We won't make it impossible for them to get it, but we won't let it be easy 😉).

I also need to apply this same concept in the perpendicular orientation than what my original image shows, but I feel empowered to extrapolate what you have taught me to do that part as well!
