As someone who can drive CNC machines,

with no experience with A Axis equipment, or the Fusion CAM interface,

I would select the internal edge - valley centre line.

Form tool shape will be delivered.

You will do better for requesting this in the cam section of the forum, but let’s tag @seth.madore , we will both learn about it.

my suggestion is - as you would for engraving, Select the valley of the cut. Form tool at 90 degrees, should work, but I am reluctant to go deeper due to my observer status in Fusion CAM.

Might help....

Hello All -

I'm a hobbyist cuemaker and fairly new to the world of CNC and I'm struggling with drawing and creating a tool path to cut v-grooves into a forearm (tapered cylinder).

Here is a video of what I'm trying to accomplish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XL9gX4QeNSU

The length of my tapered stock is 12.7" long with a base diameter of 1.5" and finish diameter of 0.917".

I have my A-axis mounted along the Y-axis. Looking for some recommendations on how to accomplish creating a cad file and what tool path option to look into. I've included a picture of my router for reference (Note: I know I need a tailstock for this, this is just for reference).

Thanks,

Phil

Simplest is a straight extrude cut, but

Sweep with curved path takes a bit more work.

How would you cut a tool path along the line that forms the groove? I'll be using a 90 degree form mill coming in from the side.

Thank for the reply!

I'm guessing there is something funky going on with the form tool I created. I specified a 1" diameter for the tool and selected the internal center line, however it appears that the tool is cutting deeper than the line I selected?

I'm attaching my f3d file.
