So... I've continued with the model I shared - here's the link again if interested. https://a360.co/3dqYp0G

I turned off the history/timeline function and that allowed some editing of sketch7 however as is often my case, I want to reorient the components and their sketches. The sketch 7 shows a lock icon and I can't find a way to unlock it. I was able to rotate the earlier sketch called profile so it's an irritating mystery.

vid attached

(btw) When I got an error message that I'd not chosen a forum to post to I copied all the content of my post as I learned that if one forgets that detail then choosing it erases everything previously written and one must start over. That's a rather lame bug and it's been the case for years now. Is there any good reason that must happen?? (I'm going to copy all this again just in case I missed anything else like category or tags.

Hi,

1. the symbol means that there´s a fully defined sketch and no lock
2. the sketch cannot be edited, because it is the result of a projection, which can be recognized by the colour (purple).
If you want to edit the sketch, the link must be removed > right click > break link > blue lines

günther

Okay - thanks.

Now, I was able to unlink both the horizontal projection lines but as you'll see in the vid not the verticals. I've tried RC on the sketch in the browser when it was inactive as well as active but found no option to de link. In the sketch itself while the projection lines will highlight blue RC does not call up a menu that includes a delinking option.

Satan?

Also this is confusing - "the symbol means that there´s a fully defined sketch and no lock"

if there's no lock then why is a lock icon showing?

"the sketch cannot be edited, because it is the result of a projection, which can be recognized by the colour (purple)."

The holes where not projections only the outer boundaries which were used to place the holes.

But in any case -

"If you want to edit the sketch, the link must be removed > right click > break link > blue lines"

And as you'll see from the attached below, only two of the purple lines could be unlinked.

Here's a SS of the menu that's revealed with a RC

"

Thanks for your help! It's odd how selecting everything allowed a disconnect while selecting indivual items failled half the time.

Also, now that I've disconnected the projections, my holes have disappeared. I'm going to leave this model in state and start a new one as I try to train myself in the process. I'm not a linear sort of thinker - my mind's not that disciplined - I wander about the desinging discovering aspects that interest me - always changing things. That's what I've found so restrictive and frustrating about a time line. I know one can go backwards easily - I've seen it in numerous vids but when I try to exist in the space I get befuddled and impatient.

You know...the entire concept that some words are "bad" has befuddled me forever.

Poop vs. Sh*t, for example...they are both four letters...they both refer to the same brown smelly stuff. Why is one "bad" and the other one is kid friendly? It just seems arbitrary to me.

Language is a way to express our thoughts. And it's just made of of letters that we've jumbled together in various ways to make words. Why should one arbitrary collection of letters be acceptable, while another arbitrary collection of letters be offensive? Who decided which is which? How did this illogical tradition arise?
