Thanks for that Jeff.

I'm not quite sure I've got my head 100% around the component/bodies thing. More reading and watching some YT vids is required.

Cheers

I'm having some issues with extruding, specifically the join command and whether or not it's working as it's supposed to and I'm just misunderstanding it's functionality.

As I'm told is best practice, I've started a new file and chosen new component from the 'assemble' menu. So I'm working with components and not bodies.

So here's my issue...

I'm extruding different parts of the same sketch in different directions.

1st Extrusion... Make my selection, chose new component, extrude as expected.

2nd Extrusion... Make my selection, choose join, extrude creates a new body and not, as I was expecting, a unified single component.

If instead of choosing join, I chose new component, it extrudes as expected but, and no surprises here... creates another component.

If I use bodies instead of components, the the join command creates the unified object as I expected.

So, does the join command only create a unified 'part' when using bodies and not when using components?

Cheers

If you Make a new Component, then extrude as a Component... That's redundant. : ) Because you have made a new component within a new Component.

Every "component" has a body. So, Once you make a new component from the top menu, then extrude as a body.

What's happening now, is you' still editing the Component you made first. So, it's making a body for the first component.

Clear as mud? : )

Jeff,

Firstly, I really appreciate you taking the time to do that. Unfortunately though... I really struggled to hear what you were saying over the top of the background music. I didn't have a problem with the choice of music just it's volume compared to that of your voice. That violin/viola is pretty good at drowning out what your saying 😉

Cheers

That's hilarious : ) Who knows what I was listening too. I work by myself all day and get bored.

Let me know if you need a better video. : ) It's no problem to make.
