Sketch selection problem

I made an .SVG from a logo on Illustrator, but when I import it to Fusion I cannot select only the fill part from it, it selects it all. I'm new to 3d and no idea how to solve this.

Hi,

1. green means fixed > rightclick > unfix (somtimes > 2 times unfix)

2. look for gap left side using divide & conquer system

3. maybe share your svg* file or f3d (Fusion)

Try the divide and conquer technique.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

If your new to fusion, I would NOT suggest getting to know the program by using imported .SVG files. Svg file present a whole host of issues (some caused by the originating program, some by fusions import, some by user error) that can be difficult to work out till you have some experience.

Are you going to Extrude it? At first glance SVG looks OK, but when you zoom it you can see some imperfections, like @laughingcreek said.

Area's where line not closed. I find it's often easy to check if you pull a plane off the SVG, create a sketch there, and try to "project" the SVG items onto the new plane. the miss joints and overly screwed up area quickly point themselves out! can also correct long segments of small connections by using the Spline tool to replace screwy spots from the original imports

That step over IS the gap. one of the subtleties of how illustrator creates it's exports.

@laughingcreek, I've been using Inkscape for a few months and am reasonably proficient with technical designs, using splines etc. So I wanted to progress to CAD.

Hence I started with Fusion 360, and immediately ran into problems trying to do anything with an svg imported from Inkscape. It cannot be moved, sized, or edited in general.

Already spent many hours searching the internet, youtube etc, for answers to this issue, then I came across your comment about "a whole host of issues" re importing svgs. Is there any info source I could study up on, so that I can use svgs?

imported SVGs come is as "fixed" sketch geometry. That is why they cannot be moved/edited. You will need to "unfix" them in order to edit them.

However, be CAREFUL when working with SVG - it is easy to import an SVG that has way too many curves for Fusion to handle. A Fusion sketch is not intended to deal with thousands of curves.

Thanks Jeff, just found that out. But although I can now move an Inkscape SVG import, it seems I still cannot edit it? It's a simple sketch, just 14 nodes.

I'm probably still doing something wrong. 😞

I've attached an F3D file. All I did was import a simple SVG from Inkscape, with one object comprising 14 spline points. Then I "Unfixed" it, and moved it so the Leading Edge point was at 0,0.

It looks like F360 doesn't cope with the spline curve - perhaps because it includes an "edge" spline at the Trailing Edge?

I imported a simple square from Inkscape, and was able to edit it.
