not a problem. the internal naming system doesn't reuse those numbers. it will continually count up. this won't effect the BOM count though. the numbers aren't related. for the BOM, fusion will count the actual number of instances of a component.

I am modeling a new project. So far, it's extremely basic. I'd like to get this BOM Table figured out before I get much further.

The screenshots below show where I am with the modeling. I created a simple foot plate (no drilled holes yet) and copied the component and pasted new. So far the names both end in :1 (Foot_Plate:1 and Foot_Plate (1):1), which I thought meant they would be the same Balloon # and, therefore, would add up to Qty 2 on the BOM Table. However, they do not.

Not sure what else to do:

I gave them the same PN in their properties. Also did not work.

cheers,

Andrew

when you pasted new you created a unique copy. as in a totally new component with it's own time line. If you had done a regular paste, you would have ended up with an instance of the same component. then you would have a part count of 2.

the number after the colon is the instance of that component. in your case they are both 1, so they are each the first instance.

what you wanted your component list to look like was this-

foot_plate:1

foot_plate:2

Another question:

I made another component the way you described. I went to move it and I hit Escape instead of Enter after moving it around and so it was right on top of the other component. I just deleted the component and made another new one. When I did, the new component was foot_plate:3. So the software is skipping :2. Is this a problem?

cheers,
