I've been using Fusion for quite a long time, but I still wonder if there is an easy way to adjust the "assemble-coin" directly, without having to adjust the components position in a second step?

Supplemented example: I'd like to place the transparent component on top of the other. I.e. I'd like to adjust the second "coin" direction to fit the first one in the same step.

But it won't give you more info sending you the file.

You see on the picture that the x- and y-directions are opposite. My question was really if there is a simple way to reorient the right "coin" directly in the same step.

If I just accept and klick ok, then I have to reorient the component in a second step. This seems quite odd and unnessecary to me.

You created a screenshot to supplement your written explanation.

We'd like to do the same thing, often even with a screencast, but we need a model to do so 😉

Remember that most of the folks who help out here are Autodesk customers who do this voluntarily. Time is of the essence, as you're not the only user looking for help!

@joergen_nilsson wrote:

If I just accept and klick ok, then I have to reorient the component in a second step. This seems quite odd and unnecessary to me.

It would have probably been easier if you recorded a screencast and recorded the process. Once the joint origins (assemble coin) are snapped together, I use the manipulator widget (arrows, rotary handle, and the flip button in the UI) to make adjustments. I don't have to edit the joint after initial creation to make adjustments.

I use OBS studio to create screen recordings. The short ones can just be dragged directly into a post from a folder on your computer. You can do the same with images/photos/screenshots

I am a teacher and check the students models correctness by placing the reference model on top of the the students model. It makes it faster to see errors. But my purpose has really nothing to do with my support question. Again, I just wondered if there is an easy way to redirect the "coin" directly, to avoid having adjust the component position in a second or even third step sometimes. Maybe I have missed some useful trick here? If not, I would kindly request a program improvement regarding this issue.

I'd have to disagree with that. The purpose much better explains how the components are supposed to be oriented 😉

"on top of" is quite ambiguous without an image of the desired end result.

When you select snap points on faces, the joint origins snap with their Z-axis facing in opposite directions. That is the default, as that is the most common orientation when assembling components. You can simply use the flip button to have both joint origin Z-axis points in the same direction.

Or, as I show in the 2nd and 3rd joint attempts in the screencast, you use edges for selecting snap points.

Ok, thanks. I guess I have to live with this in my opinion a bit inconsistent way to handle the assembling. Sometimes one have to do a second or even third action and sometimes not.

Personally I would prefer to have better control over the "coins" x- and y-directions directly.

But you showed it yourself in your video. When you click on the edge the model fit in place directly, but when you instead click the corner you have to flip the model in a second step. That's what I call inconsistency. Sometimes it is not even enough to flip but one have to rotate the component as well. I'm not complaining, I just think there ought to be a simpler solution to this procedure in Fusion.

That's what I call inconsistency. Sometimes it is not even enough to flip but one have to rotate the component as well. I'm not complaining,

What I showed in my video and explained in my post is not inconsistent. It's a sensible default(flip icon is enabled) for the most commonly used joint and the most commonly occurring situation.

If that default did not exist, I would ask for it! For obvious reasons, components are not assembled to occupy the same space in most mechanical assemblies. At least in my 30+ years of professional CAD use as an Engineer.

Edit: I had to play around with this and think about it. I agree that it is inconsistent! However, it might have been implemented this way intentionally. I have access to the developers through another "channel (Slack) and ask them why it is implemented this way.

However, what you can do to get around this one additional action of pressing the flip button is to create an explicit joint origin in your model:

<video-js data-video-id="6365304600112" data-account="6057940548001" data-player="default" data-embed="default" class="vjs-fluid" controls="" data-application-id="" style="width: 100%; height: 100%;"></video-js>
(view in My Videos)
