API access to Motion Link?

Is there an API interface to the Motion Link functionality in Fusion 360?

Since evidently there is currently no way to get an event indicating a change in joint value, the only other way would be to fork a thread and poll the joint value. Since I'm implementing a feature that would link a multiplicity of joints, the necessity of serial polling of multiple joints seems, well, old-fashioned.

I would rather have the joint-value-change event, but I could live with an API to Motion Link...

I can answer your question. Unfortunately, it's not the answer that you'd like. The motion link capabilities of Fusion 360 are not currently exposed through the API. It should be but we just never got to it. Hopefully, at some time in the future it will get done but I don't think anyone knows when that might be at this time.

I apologize for reviving a 4-year-old question, but I was wondering if there are any updates on adding Motion Link to the Fusion 360 API, @BrianEkins

It is an extremely useful feature for many of my use cases and it would be a great addition to the Joint API to see if a joint is linked with other joint(s). If there are any other ways to get this information from the current version API, that would be great to know, too.

Unfortunately, nothing has changed in this area. Hopefully, we'll see something soon.

Plug-in developers like ProtoTech Solutions need an API for Motion Study in order to export PDFs with animated 3D objects. Please, Autodesk, help them out!

I was wondering if there have been any updates recently (as of 2026) regarding adding Motion Link support to the Fusion 360 API.

Is this something that has been introduced, planned, or still not available yet? I’d really appreciate any insight you might have on this.

MotionLink is now supported in the API

I will suggest to use the current insider build or wait until the April release is out in a couple weeks, there are bug fixes for MotionLink included in there
