Hi Kal, So glad you've discovered our Revit Plug-In and the 3 super powerful tools included there!

The FormIt ---> Revit converter is one of these - so what you used to rely on A360 saving to do... you can do for yourself!

I find myself dusing this all the time as I'm impatient like you are 😉

Steps to convert from FormIt 360 Sketch to Revit RVT using the FormIt Converter Plug-in:

Download the converter from here: http://formit360.autodesk.com/blog/formit-converter/

Install the Plug-in on top of Revit 2015 - restart Revit

Open your FormIt sketch on web (use chrome or firefox) http://formit360.autodesk.com/app/

Click the export icon, then choose Export Locally 'as FormIt 360 Sketch'

Go to Revit 2015 - open a new (or existing) project - select the template of your choice!!!

Go to Add-In's tab - FormIt 360 Conversion Panel - from the drop down list choose "Convert FormIt 360 Sketch to RVT'

Navigate to your downloads folder and select your FormIt 360 Sketch (.axm file type)

Click OK through the various Revit warnings... 🙂

In most cases you'll need to make sure that Mass category visibility is set to display

Hopefully these steps help all those FormIt users out there interested in saving LOADS of time by getting native Revit geometry, levels, location, etc converted from their conceptual design model to their design development model!

Thanks,

There is no need to Export an RVT file. Just Save the file to your 360 account. Make sure you are signed in. (top right corner of FormIt, silhouette of a head)

Once signed in, go to the top left of FormIt and click on the "9.box grid" icon (this is the Gallery icon) and choose Save (you can name it first by clicking on the name next to the 9-box icon and type in a new name)

You will see "Saving to your A360 Drive". Go to 360.autodesk.com and log in. in the Docuemnts list, you will see {filename}.AXM...this is the FormIt file. In a few minutes, another file {filename}.RVT will appea. We create this RVT file for you automatically via the Cloud.

You can then download thiss RVT file and open it in Revit.

I will recommend another method than the one proposed earlier:

Install for Revit 2015 or 2016 the FormIt 360 Converter (look for it on the home page of formit360), it is an add-in that can allow you to convert any FormIt file (AXM format) into a RVT file without waiting for it on A360 Drive (it took too long for me each time and depends th eomplexity of my FotmIT - I was impatient.

Give it a try and a kuddo for me if it works better for you (or accept this message as a solution...

Cheers,

Those steps are very clear -

I tried yesterday the other tools

I couldnt make it working when I check the box for the A360 on the dialog box - It will keep asking me to login to A360 from Revit and I was and I had formit login too and A360 Drive too so all covered; I was trying to convert Specialty Equipments from Revit to AXMF and a sketchup model to AXM. Also it will be good to mention that the families and the sketchup files need to be storted on local drives, from shared drives it didnt work.

When I unchecked the A360 option and store all my content on C drive (I should check if D drive works) everything went thru.

The families from Revit came very quickly on my FormIt projects also the Sketchup although it was a too big site to import!

Original SKP 2014 2.5 MB converted to AXM almost double in file size 4.8 MB.

The families from Revit were compressed from 260 KB originally rfa went to 65KB AXFM.

Hope all t his helps.

Cheers.

"Save Sketch > Locally" (Cntrl-S) is the same as Save. If you are working on a file and you click that or press Cntrl-S, that will save your current file. Also, if you save to A360, it actually creates a RVT file and places it in your A360 account. This is essentially the same as a "Save to Revit"

I too am having a Converter issue. I have a Sketchup file that I’ve exported to AXM in FormIt (Desktop). When I use the Coverter in Revit 2017 or 2018, Revit locks up. Is there a complexity limit when dealing with Sketchup files?

Hi Bill - In my experience there is not an upper limit, but there is typically *something* in the SKP file that is unnecessarily complex from a geometric perspective... a landscape topo, plants / trees, a desk chair, light fixtures, etc... so I'd recommend the following steps:

- Make sure you have the latest FormIt Add-in - v1.9.4 - LINK

- In FormIt, open the SKP file, use layers to turn off the visibility of unnecessary objects for Revit

- The Revit import is WYSIWYG - so 'hiding' geometry in FormIt will keep Revit from processing it on import

- Save the AXM file and import this using the FormIt add-in for Revit - hopefully this resolves the issues...

- If you still have long import times, then try importing in 'chunks' to identify the problematic geometry

- In FormIt isolate one layer at a time - use the 'export visible' option in the export dialog - then save that exported axm - and import to Revit - save

- Repeat the above steps to build up your Revit model in chunks and identify the issue...

Hope this helps! If you continue to have trouble let us know and we can attempt to help with the problematic file

Tobias,

I updated FormIt for Windows to 16.3 and the Converter plug-in for Revit 2017. Unfortunately, the Sketchup model only contains 1 Layer. I've tried editing the Group to facet some of the complex surfaces. Unfortunately, I still end up locking up Revit when using the Convert FormIt to Revit post exporting it from FormIt as an AXM. I'm trying to convert this Sketchup model into a Loadable Family for Revit.

I've shared my FormIt folder on A360 Drive since the forum will not allow me to upload a SKP file.

hi Bill - I was able to download the file. Thank you for posting it! I was expecting a larger building model, but I can see this is a smaller component - and I can see how you'd like to import this to a Revit Family.

I can see there are watertight issues - some missing faces and internal edges - if you use keyboard shortcut DW you will see these in red - I also notice that there are many short edges that Revit may have a hard time with. I'll share the file with the FormIt team and also try to clean up the watertight issues and will let you know if I can get it imported successfully.

Hi @Anonymous ! @Tobias_Hathorn shared your file with me to take a look. If your goal is to place this component within a Revit file (and not edit it) I think an easier solution would be to just import the SKP directly into an RFA template. If you need that specific material color, you could recreate it as Revit material and then apply it using Object Styles. See this article for more detail.
