New to FormIt 360...

I'm having one of the strangest issues and I'm wondering if it's a bug or just plain user error.

The current project I'm developing I'm starting in FormIt to try, and it's a great program for quick massing, but a simple task similarly done in sketchup is proving to be complicated.

I'm trying to drawing/sketch a line on a surface to split it into two or more segments to push, pull, and more importantly paint with different materials. Every time I do this though it makes the whole cube disappear! The line stays but the surfaces are just gone.

See screen cast for example of this happening...Thoughts?

Hi Nick - I have a theory for you. I see your layers palette is open, so you're controlling visibility. I think that when you split the face, this is causing the block to 'merge' with other geometry in your model that is on a layer that's turned off.

So try turning on your layers, and draw the edge again - I bet that the geometry isn't deleted, it just became invisible.

To protect against this happening you have to use Groups. Grouping specific elements will keep them from merging / joining / sticking to other geometry. A classic problem in a modeler like FormIt or SketchUp - you just have to get used to Grouping as you go.

Hopefully this helps?

Hi Nick,

Thanks for writing in, and for recording the video.

Would you be willing to send us the file? We'd like to take a look. If so, please email it to: 2017021.h6w5bvnbonxl85tw@u.box.com

One thing you could try is to put that mass in a Group first, then enter the Group and draw the line you're trying to draw. Not sure if it will work without taking a look at the file, but it's worth a try.

Dang you guys are fast!

Yes user error was what I thought. Grouping then editing in the group solves it.

Thanks!
