Hi Duilio,

The services seem to have started properly, based on the latest output you've posted. Does Smoke run now?

If not, can you please also post these files:

/usr/discreet/sw/log/sw_serverd.log

/usr/discreet/sw/cfg/stone+wire.cfg

How about the output of this command:

ping -t3 `hostname`

Is your media storage properly mounted? Can you browse to the /mnt/StorageMedia/smoke1/p7/ directory via Terminal or the file manager?

The swdb log is full of access errors to the storage folder.

Also, is there any reason why you're using eth1 for your network and not eth0?

Many thanks,

Robert.

Hi Duilio.

All the logs you've posted seem to indicate normal operation. So Smoke's services seem to be working.

I would like to get a complete set of logs to cross-reference them and see what's wrong.

Can you please zip up the /usr/discreet/log, /usr/discreet/sw/log and /usr/discreet/sw/cfg directories and post them or send them to me?

Many thanks,

Robert.

Hi and thanks for the files.

There are several issues:

1. Your storage ID in the /usr/discreet/sw/cfg/sw_storage.cfg is 10, while the sw_framestore_map file lists it as 55. Have you manually changed it from 55 to 10? That might explain why stone&wire cannot identify your storage database and why the 'volume integrity check' (vic) process reports over 800,000 missing frames.

Normally, a workstation's storage Id should never be changed, otherwise you risk losing all frames (caches, renders, proxies) created before the change.

2. You seem to have renamed your computer from "vxfhost" to "injaus-smoke01" on Jan 28. Was that when the problems started? I recommend switching the hostname back to "vxfhost" and re-enabling the vxfhost line in the sw_framestore_map file. You can keep your new network IP, and enter the appropriate IP-hostname entry in /etc/hosts.

3. Smoke reports that it can't find (or open) the license file: /usr/local/flexlm/licenses/DL_license.dat

Please check that the file is there and that permissions allow "read" for everyone.

regards,

Robert.

Hi.

Judging by what I saw in the sw_framestore_map, the original ID was 55. It was changed to 10 in the /usr/discreet/sw_storage.cfg file for some reason.

Here's what I would do:

1. Open a Terminal as root and stop stone+wire:

/etc/init.d/stone+wire stop

2. Change the workstation hostname back to 'vxfhost'.

3. Open the /etc/hosts file and match 'vxfhost' to your workstation IP.

4. Open the /usr/discreet/sw/cfg/sw_storage.cfg file and change the ID from 10 back to 55.

5. Open the /usr/discreet/sw/cfg/sw_framestore_map file, disable the "localhost" line and re-enable the "vxfhost" line.

6. Go to the /usr/local/flexlm/licenses directory and run the ls -la command

7. Make sure the DL_license.dat file is there and that it's permissions are -rw-r--r--

8. Restart your workstation to have all the changes applied.

9. Try starting Smoke again.

regards,

Hi.

The error in the logs is "extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0"

Looks like there's an issue with the graphics card or driver. Are you sure nobody made any changes to the OS while moving the machine?

Is the proper version of the DKU installed? Try reinstalling it. The proper DKU version for Smoke / Flame 2010 SP3 (the first to support the Z800) is 4.0.4

Also, exactly which version of RHEL are you using? It should be 5.3.

Can you please attach the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file?

Regards,

2010 SP3 (which came with DKU 4.0.4) was the first version to support the Z800 workstation.

SP2 came with DKU 4.0.2, which did not include the required drivers to support the Z800 workstation. I'm surprised to hear that it worked like that and I also find it strange that a simple change of network location broke it. Are you sure they didn't make any other changes to the workstation at the same time?

Would it be possible for them to upgrade to DKU 4.0.4 and 2010 SP3? Projects created in SP2 will be compatible.

Thanks,

Hi Duilio.

That looks like the basic xorg.conf file that the OS would create by default, and not the xorg.conf that the DKU creates.

Can you please make sure that:

1. The proper version of the OS is installed: Custom Autodesk version of RHEL 5.3

2. Ensure the network is properly configured.

3. Install the proper version of the DKU: 4.0.4.

4. Install version 2010 SP3 of the software.

Once you have done that, please let me know if Smoke still won't start.

Hi.

Can you please send me the workstation's serial number as well as the customer info via private message?

I will e-mail them the DKU and Smoke software.

As far as the installation steps go:

1. Verify that the workstation is running RHEL 5.3

2. Install DKU 4.0.4

3. Install Smoke 2010 SP3.

4. Look at the /usr/discreet/sw/cfg/stone+wire.cfg, /usr/discreet/sw/cfg/sw_framestore_map and /usr/discreet/sw/cfg/sw_storage.cfg files and make sure that the storage path, HADDR and storage ID match the ones that worked in the past. That way the user will be able to access the projects and media they had before the move.

If the user doesn't need the projects and media that were there before the move, you may reformat everything and reinstall from scratch to get rid of all the configuration issues you've been running into.
