Not sure about the first, as I've never run multiple versions side-by-side.. but I'm guessing it's just a warning that things might not work completely, as you are running a newer version of the background services (wiretap, backburner, etc) than the application version and there could be incompatibilities. I'm guessing Restart stops the services and starts up the matching old versions?

As for the little sync arrow button on tracks, that's used for when you are, say, doing an insert edit into your timeline; normally only the tracks you're performing the edit on will ripple down, throwing all the other tracks out of sync with them. But if you turn on the sync arrows on other tracks, they will ripple (by inserting a gap) as well.

2 quick question

Hi all,

I have two possibly quick questions. Firstly, we are looking to upgrade to 2018, and (like usual with every update) if we run 2017.1.1 we'll get the "Run Degraded or Restart" dialogue box . I have always been curious as to what actually is happening with the background services when you run degraded? What is the benefit of restarting vs. just running degraded.

and second question, purely out of curiosity, does anyone know what the toggle sync arrow, between the lock and the P/S switch, does? What is it syncing?
