Flame 2018 : Keeping "/opt/Autodesk/" and "/usr/Discreet/" ???!!

Hello everybody,

I wonder why my system boot drive is full of Autodesk files...

I checked and I saw that It have exactly the same files twice ! in /usr/Discreet/clip/ and /opt/Autodesk/clip/ same thing with project folder

Flame 2018 uses /opt/Autodesk/ folder no ?

Could I remove /usr/Discreet/ folder ? It seems to write twice (check the date / hour) of modified file (screenshot).

What would be the solution to keep just one main Autodesk folder in my system boot drive ?

It's not actually there twice, it just appears in two parts of the filesystem.

Really everything lives in /opt/Autodesk but a cloned mount point is made in the historical /usr/discreet location for some backward compatibility, as /usr/discrete is where things had existed for years and years and we're all simply too used to typing it 🙂 (Plus some people might have custom scripts and things that refer to the old location still, etc.)

Don't worry, it's not taking up twice as much space.

(and to be clear and answer your specific question: no, don't delete /usr/discreet! You will wipe out everything.)

Strange...

I move one project folder from "/usr/Discreet" to desktop... so his size decreased.

and.. The size of the "/opt/Autodesk" folder too !!

I don't know what different physical folders are the same.

Do you have also the same folders ?

As I said, /usr/discreet is a cloned *mount* of /opt/Autodesk -- all the folders and files only exists on your disk once, but appears in the filesystem twice.

This was a change made several versions ago mainly to work around a MacOS update that affected third parties from installing things in /usr - so everything was moved to /opt/Autodesk but then a link to it was made as /usr/discreet so any other external components (or even Flame its self in the transition) that relied on the old path wouldn't break. I don't know for sure but I think eventually it will be deprecated.

But just to reiterate, /usr/discreet is the same thing as /opt/Autodesk. They are NOT separate copies or clones.
