Renaming old RedHat Flame system....

We have an old Z800/RedHat machine which we are trying to rename. the /etc/hostname file seems to be ignored (or bypassed). The name of the machine stays unchanged. Changing /etc/sysconfig/network contents also does not seem to have any effect even after rebooting.

Is there a Flame-installation specific file/script that is naming the machine on the fly outside of the hostname file's control or another method to rename the machine?

Hi Sam,

What version of the OS are you running?

- cat /etc/redhat-release

CentOS 7 and newer can be changed at the command line by using hostnamectl

hostnamectl set-hostname <YOUR HOSTNAME HERE>
ex: hostnamectl set-hostname flame

In older versions you can try the following:

edit /etc/sysconfig/network to include:
- HOSTNAME=<YOUR HOSTNAME HERE>
- ex: HOSTNAME=flame
edit /etc/hosts to include
- <IP ADDRESS> <YOUR HOSTNAME HERE>
- ex: 192.169.1.1 flame
Set hostname in CLI as test
- hostname flame
Test it by running hostname
if hostname returns the expected value, reboot and check if the new hostname persists.
If the above fails, you can try using the command system-config-network and select the DNS Config option.
