I want to start making a library for my tools. For example I use a 2 mm ball endmill. The cutting dia is 2 mm but the shank is 4 mm. I want to be able to use the form in featurecam and make it so if it hit the shank it will pause on gouge. Is this possible in Featurecam 2018?

Yes go to, "options" "simulation" "2d/3d shaded" turn on "pause on gouge"

As long as you have all the tool properties correct it should pause on gouge. If you just "show pause on gouge dialog" the simulation highlights the gouge and continues on simulation. I hope this is what your looking for. If this answers your query, please select "Accept as Solution"

I drew the form of my tool and made a curve. With this curve I made a new tool in my library. It works in centerline but it will not work in 3D. I attached some screen shots to show what is going on.

cap0041 is your ball nose endmill cap0042 is your warning but what kind of tool is cap0043 is that a thread mill? It appears the shank is tapered is that correct?

The cap04 is just the name of the screenshot not the name of the tool. This tool is just a 2 mm ball endmill with 8 mm reach.

try making the endmill with out using a curve.

You might already know this but,

The end of your curve has to be on XYZ 0.0.0. facing down in the Z axis for it to show up correctly.

I drew it up in that view and the tool shows up great in centerline simulation but gives an alarm on the 3d simulation. I attached a screenshot to show the alarm

Hello @Anonymous,

It seems curve of your tool is not lying in XZ plane of stock axis. Turn on 'show stock axis' and check if the curve is lying on XZ plane . Best method is to select a ballnose tool and 'Paste' copy of curve in to graphics. It will paste the curve of the tool on correct location and later you can edit it as per your requirement. That's correct your curve needs to be on the "STOCK Axis" UCS . make sure under your layer settings you have your Stock axis turned on to see it.

Place your curve on the stock axis as shown
