Okay I missed that before, so I have tried it on the grooves but it is still doing funny things like going way deeper than the surface indicated and then continuously indexing while the z goes up a couple thousandths at a time and X+ a couple at a time. gonna keep playing with it I never give up

Okay I have a simple enough part it's just an oval with about 20 90deg grooves that go around it. They are only about .015" deep I could write a program by hand that would do this easily but I have not been able to get FC to do it it either wants to try to do it as surface milling or gives me errors. Anyone have a thought on what am I missing?

here you go this is the part the main reson I want to do this on the indexing head is it is hard to find double angle cutters this long that come to a small enough point.

Missing attachment so I can't tell what you marked in red. but probably there are a bunch of grooves going around it and that go down the length of it. It seams like it should be a simple part to make completely on the 4th axis cut the bottom off and machine the inside in a second op an be done. otherwise you end up with more setups. setups are time time is money

Thanks JD,

this works great but how did you go about it? Yesterday I had put a the surface on it like you did but rather than indexing it would just surface mill straight down without indexing around the part. I have a couple other sizes to do so need to under stand how to make it work. in the mean time I will continue looking at all your settings etc. and see if I can pick up what I've been missing.
