Factory in several floors

Hi, we are allways projecting high buildings with several floors (see attached files) but FDS is clearly not designed for that.

The problem is that I can't get the connection points to transfer through more than one assembly (see attached file) and I would like to make the assembly structure like in the sketch, so we can work more than one person on the project at the same time, for example one person on basement and one person on third floor.

How would you do this? Have I missed something, maybe a feature in FDS?

It is difficult to explain so please ask.

Hi Thomas,

According to the snapshot, I noticed that is the multi-floor layout design, but each floor with different elevation, Correct?

As my experience, the elevation of each floor is determined by the 3D epuipment. So generally, as the start, the chief designer need to create the multiple floor and then assign each floor design to one person.

We can use FDS for this design. I like to discuss with you the details. Maybe, to have a online meeting is great.

I can't find anything about multiple floors (FDS 2014), so a little online help would be appreciated very much 🙂 . How do we do that, Teamviewer?

One question to you, what is the first platform to start the multiple floor design? AutoCAD or Inventor?

Hi again,

We only use Inventor because AutoCAD is useless for these factory layouts. We make at lot of section views and AutoCAD can't show asset i 3D (from side).

...almost working.

I still can't transfer the connector from First Floor to Second Floor. It is working from Ground Floor (main assembly) to First or Second Floor.

Hi Thomas,

I see. So you need to use "Expose" command in factory Inventor to transfer the connectors that need to be consumed in the other sublayout.

I made a small video of what I trying to do. The two upper floors are sub-layouts and I can't transfer connectors between these two only to the "main"-assembly as shown.

Hi Thomas,

I understood what the problem is it.Yes, that is the limitation now.
The first workaround should be as below:
1,Place the assets and connect the assets in the third floor in main layout
2,Drag and drop the assets in main layout into the second floor in model browser

Alternative is that you can place the asset in second floor and then expose the connector on the asset. And then back to the main layout, you can use “Connect” command to connect the assets between second floor and third floor.Finally you can continue to edit the second floor to place the other assets.

I am following this thread with GREAT interest as I am newbie and will soon be tacking similar, multi-story manufacturing challenges.

Is there any possiblity of sharing instructional videos on this topic from thread via a company e-mail for my personal usage only?

I am just starting a 3D model of a multi-story (up to 6 floors) food chemical (powdered solids and liquid) manufacturing plant.

Along with FDSP, we use CADWorx Plant & P&ID Professional for piping.
