When you add a pad in the footprint editor, you can set both the drill size and the pad size. The pad size defaults to "auto" (which means it's entirely controlled by the DRC settings) but you can set it. However, if your board has DRC settings that your specified pad size violates - specifically the "annular ring" minimum width - then the board editor overrides the library because you're telling it you can't manufacture what the library says.

I need to create oval-shaped pads with oval holes, specifically for USB TYPE-C connectors. I understand that I need to use the milling layer for the oval through-hole. However, my question is primarily about how to achieve different widths and heights of the pad itself. I have attached the design document and the pads are marked in red. I can't seem to find a way on Eagle yet. I use Eagle 9+.

Hello @Anonymous ,

For oval, or oblong shapes like those, you can use an smd pad, shape it with the length and width that you want, and the round the edges with radius 'width/2' (or any, actually).

Then, as you said, you would have to use the milling layer to create the custom hole

I you want a more complex shape, you would have to use a polygon

I'm also trying to make a costume pad. The problem is, I don't understand why when I use the polygon tool, I can't see the PAD layer anymore. Surely a beginner's mistake but there, since this morning that I try to find a solution in vain. Can someone give me a little help. The part number is ACS770200CB. I did download from Ultra Librarian but the layout is unacceptable.

EagleCAD of the layout!

 I did try to re-edit!

Thanks for your help!

Hi there.

KiCAD can do that. Why AutoDesk is not working on this issue. I think more and more connectors need this style and FUSION360 does not offer.

This is so sad that you stop Eagle. I've been using Eagle for nearly 30 years. It is the most powerful and fast electronic EDA software.

I'll start soon with Kikad, I've tried Fusion 360, it is so slow comparing Eagle. If you don't wish to loose customers, I hope that you will propose a life license for the current eagle version. I can pay for that 😉
