Hi @decee.server @david.kearney5SAJW ,

Once you have the design block you could conceivably add a few lines to the eagle.scr to place the designblock into a new design. I will note the feature request so that it can be documented and implemented at a future date.

There is currently no mechanism to setup a template project currently.

You can find the add designblock command next to the add command in the schematic editor. If only the schematic is open then only the schematic portion will come in, they layout of the components will not be preserved. If you have both the schematic and the board open then both will come in.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

Hello,
I got a standard schematic layout ( Drawing header, 3.2mm holes, Fiducial mark and such) which i would like to include for every new project i create. I tried creating a "untitled.sch", "default.sch" and "Eagle.sch" in my root project folder. That didn't do the trick. Is there a function you can use to do this?

If not my idea was to use the Eagle.scr and just make it open a read-only default.sch file and close the other it opens when pressing "New" but eh.. there gotta be a function for this.. Right?

Hello @decee.server and @david.kearney5SAJW ,

I hope you're both well. The best way to handle this in my opinion would be to use a designblock. Create your default schematic and board setup. Then in the schematic, select File > Save as Design Block.

Design blocks allow you to treat a schematic (or piece of schematic) with it's corresponding layout as a component. So whenever you create a new design you can just insert the block and it's layout into the new design and work from there.

Let me know if that works for you.

Best Regards,

Thank you Jorge.

I'm disappointed that Eagle doesn't have a way to set a user default drawing. I believe every Windows application, other than MS Paint, has a way to do that.

In the mean time, I saw a previous comment about saving a schematic as a design block as an easy way to move it to a new design so I tried it. While it's probably pretty easy, I can see where to save the design block but I can't find a way to put it in the new schematic.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Regards,

David

The design block feature may work but then you are doing it manually again.

Every huge cad software has this kind of feature, why does Eagle not have it?
