Hi @motla.design,

I hope you're doing well. Let's try something, because of the way Device hierarchy works you are not allowed to delete a footprint or symbol if it is associated to a device. If you were allowed to delete it then that would render some devices unusable. So often you'll have to delete a device before you can delete it's constituent symbols and footprints. Try deleting a device, I think it will let you do it without issue.

Let me know if this is not the case.

Currently the only way I have found to do this is to export the library, edit the XML file directly in a text editor, and the created a new library in fusion from after importing the edited lbr. Why isn't there a simple way to delete or replace the 3D model with a different one??

What is even more awful is that if I delete the 3d file from the directory tree in Fusion team (which is possible) then the library file now has a link to a nonexistent asset and it gives a bug every time I try accessing it.

Hi @ametedinov ,

😔 You shouldn't have done that. When working with cloud data, deletion and replacement are very delicate operations because you can end up with link to non-existent data which causes the break as you've discovered.

At this point try restoring your library to the previous working version. From there you can replace the existing model with a new one. Go into the library and double click the 3D package you want to change. Delete the model contents and if you have already uploaded the step model you wish to use, you can go to the tree and right click on the model and insert it into the now empty 3D package window.

I'll alert the devs, since you shouldn't be allowed to delete that 3D model if it will break the library.

Hi @jorge_garcia ,

I continue on this topic because this is still relevant: We can't never use the Delete command for footprint packages on the library dropdown menu. This function never works and always says the library asset is in use. By using this action, the user actually expects Fusion to unuse the necessary library asset and delete it. Simple, in theory.

I hope you can fix this in the next release.

Here are the steps:

The same applies for the Devices panel, the Delete button here is always useless:

Thank you

Romain

@jorge_garcia Thanks for your answer, you're right and I understand this behavior for symbols and footprints. But as 3D packages are shown linked to footprints and not to devices, we would expect to be able to remove a 3D package associated with a footprint even if this footprint is used (and Fusion can do the underlying job of unlinking if necessary, it's not the user's job).

To clarify the second part of my post: it would be nice to just hide the "Delete" button for Symbols and Footprints when they appear under the Devices panel, because here they are always associated with a device so this menu can never work. Showing "Delete" here is misleading for the user and always results with an error. Only the "Remove from..." button is useable here.

We're talking small UX details but I believe these are improvements that will make the library editor much clearer for users. The less we have errors and instead Fusion finds an intelligent way to perform a request, the better it is.
