Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. You can alter existing library items, but you need to copy them to your personal library and make the change there. You can not alter them in the default library since those are available for all users we limit who can make changes to them. So copy it to your library and then edit it there.

Easiest way to copy the part to your own library is to open the library you want to copy into. Then in the schematic/board right click on the part and then select copy device to library.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

I am sure I answered this thread a while ago. The page says I have an autosaved reply but fails to load it when I ask it to?

Hi Jorge,

I am well thank you as I hope you are also.

I tried to take your advice to open the library I want to copy into but can't see how to do it?

I went on and right clicked the part I wanted to copy but can't find any option to copy device to library.

It is possible that as I am using an old version of Eagle, 7.7.0 the option is only in a newer version?

The page changed so much when version 7.7.0 was updated I liked the version 7.7.0 and stayed on it.

Can I do your solution in this version or not?

thanks,

Bob.

Hi @Anonymous ,

I hope you're doing well. Thanks for clarifying, V7.7 doesn't have the option that I mentioned above. I think in V7.7 the best approach is to open the library you want to copy into and then click Add (Device/Symbol/Footprint) at the bottom. In the dialog that pops up select the IMPORT button.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Hi Jorge,

Thank you for your involvement in my problem.

I reverted to 7.7 when I tried to use the version 8.4 and preferred the layout of 7.7.

I still have 8.4 on my computer, So, I loaded that up and managed to save the item I wanted in my library.

It is

Device dip-white-male-header-vert(40p-2.0)

Package h40-2.0

symbol header-40p

from Seeed-OPL-Connector

I am using the 40 pin one but need a 56 pin one. If I can alter it to 16 pin I can add that to the 40 pin and get a 56 pin unit. To do this I want to alter the 40 pin to 16 pin.

If I open the symbol and try to delete a pin it makes the ringing noise and a box appears that says

can't delete pin p$40 because it is connected to a pad.

If I open the package and try to delete a pad it says

can't delete pad p40 as it is connected to a pin.

If I open the device and try to delete a pin I just get the ringing sound?

Would you mind letting me know what I am doing wrong?

thanks,

Bob.

from

I think I have found it.

By opening the library package for the item and putting 'connect' into the box at the top a new box opens that lets me connect and disconnect pins and pads.

I am going to work with this for a while and see if it does what I want.

I have to save my work in a different library but I will try to find out how to put all the components in one library while I am learning how to connect/disconnect pins and pads.

Bob.
