Can't enable some layers (153-155, FabDoc1-3) in Board View

Hi,

When I'm in the part editor in the library, I can add information to layers 153-155 (FabDoc1-3). I want to see these layers in the Board layout tool afterward, but on my PCB it only shows layers 1 to 52 (excluding a few). If I go to View -> Layer Settings -> New Layer, I can only add layers starting at #156. How can I show these layers in my PCB?

By the way, I have a board where these layers are visible and another where they are not. I don't remember manually adding these layers on the board that has them.

(I'm using EAGLE 9.6.2 Premium, the standalone version).

Hi,

I am not sure what is the cause of this issue but i have found you can somewhat solve it by creating a new object in the board (say for example a text) then change the layer of that text to 153. Now layer 153 will appear in the list you screen capped.

so explicitly, type

text test

into the command line (cli) and hit enter. now move the mouse and drop this text somewhere.

then type

change layer 153

hit enter

then click on the text you just made

you can delete the dummy text you added.

you could also try getting eagle to display layer 153 from the cli but i found this did not solve the issue until an item was exactly moved onto that drawing layer. But maybe try with the parts you made and see. the command would simply be

display 153 154 155

the original cause may have something to do with the eagle startup scipts but im not precisely sure, but there is a hot fix for the moment at least.

Thanks @mtl_asm. Actually without anything selected, just typing "change layer 153" puts me on that layer and adds it to the list. Cheers!

nice.

i think the way to solve it without needing to use change is actually to type

set used_layers all

in the cli. this activates all layers in all menus allegedly. seems to work for the 3 layers you mentioned at the very least.

Hi All,

Normally, if the layers are used in the library, they will automatically come into the design once you bring the part in the schematic.

It's weird that you had to use the layer command to bring them in.

Set Used_layers all works, but it's overkill since you will display all 255 possible layers even if you don't use them.

I just tested this by making a part whose footprint is all on layer 153. When you add the part to the schematic and then switch to board view the part is invisible and layer 153 is not activated in the board view. Here you can see the origins of that part have been added though. ( i used a highlight tool in windows to draw the yellow box around them).

And actually my previous comment was a bit wrong in that not only do you have to issue set used_layer all (or list of layers you want), you actually have to select layer 153 (or whatever layer is missing) in the layer drop box for the part to appear on the board. I assume this triggers some sort of redraw function of the viewer.

It seems weird to have a "visible layers" menu, but then also have layers that aren't visible to the list itself 🙂

For the record, that's what happens to me too. Adding parts which contain items on layer 153 does not make that layer active automatically.
