Eagle 8.1 wont start on ubuntu 16.04 64 bit. version 7.7 runs fine

When I run I see the following:

The login screen appears for a few seconds, but the quickly disappears. You can see from the first line above, that I tried setting the environment QT_OPENGL to software and it had no effect.

Not sure what to try next.

Thanks for reaching out, the issue that you are seeing is related to the Nouveau graphics driver you are using and the graphical libraries that are used within EAGLE.

The simplest solution is to use a different graphics driver, if this is an option for you then I would encourage you to go that route. That will be the easiest.

If you must use the Nouveau driver, then some of the suggestions in the bugreport comments may prove useful to you. You can find that information here.

Please accept as solution if my post fully resolves or you issue, or reply with additional details if the problem persists.

I tried the nvidia graphics driver for a different application about 6
months ago, and the system kept crashing, so I reverted to nouveau. I will
try again to see of it helps here.
