That advice with SHOW helps that tool, but I think he's talking more about the fact that switching sheets deactivates any active tool.

This has been a gripe I've had for a long time. It's as if switching sheets is treated like running a script instead of a native internal feature.

I second his request to keep all active tools or commands persistent through sheet switches.

Developers: Is there any reason this cannot or should not be implemented?

How is it possible to get Eagle to "remember" the last written command when browsing through schematic sheets, let's say I type "show" and then click on schematics components to make them light up in the board, components which could be placed on different sheets – and I want to get rid of the need to type the command again, on every sheet…

Hello,

Issue the following command in the schematic:

SHOW - *

You will then have a persistent show window in the schematic which you can click on any object in the list, be it a component or a net and it will highlight it in the schematic and board.

You could restrict this further to only be IC's if you do the following:

SHOW - U*

Assuming you use U as the prefix for your IC's.

You can change the above to include passives too:

show - U* C* L* R*

The key here is to include the - which forces the dialog to pop up rather than just highlighting everything that matches the other parameters.

Best Regards,

Yes, I realised after I posted that it wasn't quite what you wanted but as it's a reasonable workaround for the specific example you gave I left it without further comment.

I agree, being able to preserve the active command between sheet changes would definitely be helpful.
