Background Now Not Black

Hi All,

I have recently updated my EAGLE to 8.3.2 and now the Layout background is a horrible Grey colour rather than the usual black.

The PCB area is black but outside this is grey. The edge of the PCB is drawn on the Dimension layer.

Can anyone explain why and how to fix this as I don't find it appealing at all?

Hi @JamesLE32J,

Welcome to Autodesk Eagle community. Yes you can have full control of background as well as board color.

Go to options<>set<>colors tab<>click on background color<>Palette column.

Select first column second row block to set the back ground as below highlighted by dotted boundary.

First row first column will change board work space color.

Adjust color by right side slider and click Set color then OK.

Your background color will be changed.

In addition check options<> user interface you can find layout<>background where three options are there and individual you can set as above.

My options have always been Black - Black as shown the image below. For some reason with 8.3.2 this doesn't work.

Hi again @Suraj.Desai,

I've worked it out.

In Options > User Interface there is now a check box for "Detect Board Shape". If I uncheck that it works as it should.

Box Unchecked which makes it work like it should.

Hello,

You are right, this check box does put things back to how they used to be, but I think if you ever want to use the Fusion360 integration then you'll need to turn this back on again as the board shape detection is fundamental to that capability.

This issue you are seeing was actually raised a while back when v8.3.0 was first released and after a few exchanges on the forum I managed to work out how to set everything up so it still looked nice and worked properly with the board shape detection enabled. Thank you for your information.

Strangely, when I change my colours they don't change at all.

I can't change away from that dull grey horrible colour.

Any ideas?

EDIT: Scrub that. I then followed the further comments in your thread and have worked it out. Thank you 🙂

Why are user interface colors under a menu item called "Set" ?!
