Menu bar is missing on schematic editor

I have somehow disabled the menu bar on the schematic editor. I was trying to enable the additional toolbars, and somehow removed the menu bar. The following screenshot shows my instance. This is resized, but is running on a large screen with plenty of screen real estate (2560 x 1440) scaled to 125%.

Any suggestions as to how to recover it. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled, to no avail. I am using Eagle 8.5.1 free edition on Windows 10 Home 64 bit.

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're having a good day. Here's the easiest way I can think of. Make sure EAGLE is closed and go to

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\CadSoft\EAGLE

You'll find a file called eaglerc go ahead and delete it. Next time you open EAGLE you should have the pulldown texts back. You may have to setup some defaults again but that would be the only consequence of doing this.

Thank you very much for this advice. This has restored the menu bar. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future release as this workaround does delete other customization such as the project directory setting.

Thank you for this answer, I have been struggling with the same issue for over a year, always felt kinda silly to ask about it. If possible is there a list of the preferences this erases? I'd like to know what to fix before finding out the hard way during a project. Thanks!

The eaglerc file contains most of your customisations. It is plain text, though, so if you're feeling brave...

Follow Jorge's instructions but, instead of deleting eaglerc, rename it to eaglerc-old

Now run Eagle, confirm that your menu bar is back, and close it.

The next step is the brave bit. Compare the new eaglerc against eaglerc-old, using something like winmerge or meld. There will be a number of differences. Some of these are the customisations you want - copy them from old to current. Some are options you didn't intend, such as turning off the menus - delete them from the old, if you like.

Try Eagle again and see if all is well. If not, you can delete the modified eaglerc and try again.

I figured it out myself and it's not straightforward.

On a Mac, it's called .eaglerc and it's saved in the root user directory (it's the one with a picture of a house on my Mac).

It's hidden by default as is every file that starts with a ".". Hit Command-Shift-. (that's command, shift, period) and a bunch of ghosted files will appear.

.eaglerc is one of them.

Well... I guess that depends how much of a Unix geek you are (since MacOS is based on BSD Unix). The same applies on Linux.

There is a Unix application convention that "resource control" (rc) files live in the user's home directory and are hidden (names start with a dot). If there are a lot of them, the convention is to have a hidden directory (which would be called .eagle if this were the case here) to contain them.

So yes, not at all obvious to many people, but probably the first place a True Unix Geek would look

Hello guys

Im using Autodesk eagle 9.3.2 and I couldnt find eaglerc file to restore my menu bar.

Any other suggestions please ?

I hope you're doing well. In that same EAGLE folder you'll find a folder that says settings go in there and you'll fine separate folders with eaglerc files for each of the EAGLE installs on your machine.

As a follow-up to Jorge's solution, the eaglerc file is now in:

C:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Eagle\setting\9.x.x

The path that Jorge refers may still exist too - this confused me.

Thank you for information how to restore toolbar settings.

It happened to me that toolbars went to be hidden (offscreen).

It seems that there is some bug related to multimonitor vs single monitor behaviour.

It started for me when I tried to detach toolbars and moved them to second monitor. Later when I worked with EAGLE on single monitor (I work on laptop), than toolbars are not restored to single screen.

I can access toolbars when second monitor is attached (EAGLE application must be restarted to show toolbars on second monitor, simple attachin second monitor will not reveal offscreen toolbars) so I moved toolbars back to application window (reattached them) But after some time toolbars goes offscreen again in single monitor operation even I did not detached them again.

I know this has been "solved," but there's an easier way. Just go to the Eagle Control Panel (alt + 0), Options, User Interface, and check "Pulldown menu." This will return the missing menu in the schematic and board editors.

Ok, I wrote is badly.
I have no issue with menu bar but with toolbars like action bar, texts bar,
...

They repeatedly disappearing when I start eagle in with single monitor, and
are displayed offscreen on second monitor.

I hope you're doing well. Is the glitchiness you are referring to related to the topic of this thread? If it's related to some other issues I encourage you to start a new thread and post about them there.

If it is related to the toolbars, could you be specific as to what you are seeing. The previous post is from over a year ago that's why I'm asking.
