I have reviewed the available markers but did not find one that suits my needs. So, would like to design and incorporate my own custom-designed marker/fiducial. I know how to design and use a custom part, but I have never done designed a marker.

The marker I have in mind would be a circle of say 1-mm in diameter which is surrounded by a 3-mm diameter area which is clear of any details (traces, vias, silkscreen, solder mask, etc.). How do I design such marker?

Thanks,

Mo

Hi Mo,
There are a few ways you can design fiducial markings, they are like any other library part but with connections.

You can create a device, which links a schematic symbol and a package. That way they can be included in manufacturing or test files (BOM, Pick and Place).

Or you can create a single package. With a package you have to add it from the board only.

You can download my fiducial library and modify them as needed.

Fiducials.lbr
