At this point in time there is no better way to do this in EAGLE unfortunately. I'll report the request but for now there are no immediate plans to incorporate this.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

We design hybrid electronics, and wonder if any thought has been given to future support for hybrid design / chip on board design. Eagle can be used to do it, but it is clumsy. You define a rectangle for the die itself, then surface mount pads for the bond pads, then use (in our case) the top assembly layer 21 to artistically create bond pads on the die rectangle, and then lines to the bond pads in the part outline. It would be very nice if we didn't have to go back to the library part, and create / modify it to move a bond pad a little bit. I have thought of a number of ways to do it. Design blocks is cumbersome and not acceptable to our company. Idea 1 - a new "bond wire" layer that allows us to go from a pad in the bond wire layer on top of the die rectangle (which is usually an active pad itself), then connect to the top layer WITHOUT creating a via. This would allow us to route directly to the die instead of stopping at the bond pad, and we could create very nice bond wire diagrams. Idea 2 - dynamic pads on a part outline. When we define a part in the library, allow pads to be moved actively even when the part is placed in a layout. That way, we could move the bond pads where they need to be without going back and forth to the library. Is any of this feasible? Is anybody else using Eagle to do chip on board / hybrid work - and how are you doing it?

Hello,

exist in EAGLE a easier way to create a board layout for chip bonding? The way, which is described here, is really difficult.

Sincerely yours,

Hi @jorge_garcia

thank you for your reply. I have a further question:

Do you know, if exist a tutorial to create a layout for wire bonding on a PCB Board?

I have understand, how the author of this thread have do this, but a tutorial could be better visualize these steps.

In a research case i must create a layout for wire bonding and the PCB Layout shall be create with a drill machine.

Sincerely yours,

2150131

Hi @Anonymous ,

I hope you're doing well. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any tutorials geared to this application. As mentioned above, EAGLE is clumsy for this application and it's a rather niche process so we don't have much automation to simplify it.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.
