So as I suspected, this is only a backup battery, very low current. As such, it has no particular need to be grounded any better than any other component.

What sort of board are you building? Two layer? Four layer? More?

Do you have a layer dedicated to being a ground plane? If so, then it's good to take every ground connection straight to a via to connect to that plane. If not, you need to consider whether any such vias are actually achieving anything.

Under what conditions would you need multiple vias, and where? Main power inlets quite often justify a few of them nearby to ensure that the (fairly high) current from a pad on the top/bottom layer gets really good coupling to the ground plane (or, for that matter, supply plane) on an inner layer. Beyond that, you're much better off distributing the vias so that sections of flood are well coupled overall.

Hi

I have connected many GND connection via's next to the battery negative pin for solid ground connection (thermal dissipation). But later realized that there is a problem in production while soldering the battery as the negative connection of the battery snap off or take a longer time to solder. So my question is how to avoid this issue? shall I put only one via next to the battery negative pin? See below image for reference. Could anyone please help me with this issue as I don't want to create a problem in the future.

Thanks in advance

How much "thermal dissipation" do you think the battery needs in operation?

There's nothing wrong with having a few ground vias to ensure a good connection, although a couple of the ones you've put there look too close to the pad. But that isn't your real issue. I assume you've got a ground flood in that area on the top layer? The SMD pad should have "thermals" enabled, which puts a small gap round it with only four connections to the flood. This gives enough isolation for the soldering process while not harming the electrical connection too badly because the thermal gap is narrow.

Hi

Thanks, this is the battery I am using MS621FE-FL11E. I don't think thermal dissipation will be a problem as the battery is used for gps backup battery time maintenance. The SMD pad created with ''thermals'' enabled already. Yes, I think it is making a ground flood on the top players. Putting a 2 or 3 ground via's would make any better? Could you please help me with this.

Hi

Thanks. Yes, it is a very low current. It is a two-layer board. No there is no layer dedicated to the ground plane. But I have used polygons for the bottom and top layer using the name GND.

As you said multiple vias required only for the high current or main power inlets. I don't think this battery needs many vias. I agree it is always good to place many vias as it makes a good connection. But the issue is while soldering the pad is lifting. So can I make it like the below-shown image? Will that help me?
