Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. Looks like our forum no longer recognizes the EAGLE files. I've asked to get that corrected. For now but your schematic and board in a zip file and upload that. Make sure to use the NET command to define the connections on your schematic.

On the board you'll see these thin yellow wires defining the point to point connections. You can convert those to copper traces using the ROUTE tool. The trace always want to connect to the center of pads and vias this is as designed. The traces will look red or blue depending on what layer you are routing the copper on.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

how do I make lines in brd?

The title might look a bit odd. I know I need to make them in sch but they don't show in brd.

I have been making lines in the schematic and trying to get them to show up on the brd as it would on a circuit board.

After using wire for so long I read on one of the sites I have been searching on, that to do what I wanted I had to use net and not wire?

I have been doing that.

The brd looks like the lines will go through the holes and not connect to them?

I have attached both the sch and the brd.

The top set of holes on the brd are for a tube display, I have used a number of connectors to simulate this.

The second set of holes below are for a resistor array, the left hole being the common. I started using a connector but decided since the wire goes right through the connector to use via's.

The next set down is a 16 pin chip. Before I populate it further I want to try to make the holes join together with copper strip so it looks like it would on a circuit board but no matter what I do I can't get the 'copper strip' to look similar to the holes (green wire?)

I hope this makes sense and someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. I suspect it is something simple.

Thank you.

Bob.

I keep trying to send this to the forum but if I include the files it just ignores my attempts. It doesn't say it has or why it just ignores it?

HAH it allowed me to send a snip of my screen as a attachment but not the eagle files? does it not trust them?

OK I have realised that all via's do is connect the top layer to the bottom and don't allow me to connect them into my circuit.

Ignore them . I still can't make a layer on the board that connects the pads of the ic with copper track like you see on a circuit board. I always get a blue line connected to the center of the pad?

I have snipped a cleaned up example here. Auto routing just produces the blue lines?

Hi @Anonymous,

As Jorge said, make sure to use the NET tool on the schematic. Your screen grabs don't show any airwires. This may be because you've turned that layer off (which you almost certainly don't want to do) or it may be because your schematic hasn't actually connected any of the nets you throught you drew. This is probably a result of using the WIRE tool when you wanted the NET tool.

As to the "blue lines to the middle of the hole"... that's exactly as intended. The pad's connection is dead centre, in the middle of the hole, so the routed trace must end there. When you print the board out, or generate Gerbers, this bit gets trimmed.

Jorge and news.cadsoft.

Thank you so much for the frank and complete replies.

Thank you also Jorge, yes I am doing very well. I hope you are the same, thank you for the time you spend helping people here both of you.

I have zipped the files up but I will not send them as I looked at your comment, news.cadsoft, about a print getting 'trimmed' when printed.

Even the printer review showed the lines into the middle of the holes but when I printed it I got a perfect printout.

The scale factor on the box that showed had '2' in it but when I changed this to 1 it was even the right size to laser print and iron onto a copper board.

Again thank you so much for the prompt and accurate replies.

My blessings go with you both.

Bob.
