topic Wire stubs detected which are not wire stubs in EAGLE Forum

In Eagle 9.2.1 (and 9.2.0 at least) I like the new feature to detect wire stubs but it is not working right.

The image below shows 117 wire stub warnings, and you can see some of the "wire stubs" it has highlighted.

Of course, my first thought was that these were perhaps double traces somehow, but removing the wire and redrawing it results in the exact same warning. Even weirder, these DRC warnings don't show up consistently, none of these wires were flagged for the last month I've been laying out this board and now suddenly today they appear as warnings.

I really do like the wire stub warnings, but this is clearly buggy.

Continuing the strangeness is that it's *not* detecting the actual (!) wire stubs connecting several ground pins to the ground plane and instead detecting traces that are clearly connecting things that should be connected.

And to further demonstrate that this is a real bug, closing Eagle and restarting with the same board file and re-running the DRC results in zero warnings. So somehow restarting Eagle is putting it back into a sane state. So I guess non-critical since there's a workaround, but still very strange.

Thanks,

Brian

Could you confirm that you are still seeing this issue in 9.2.1? There was a known bug related to wire stubs in 9.2.0 which was addressed.

I can also confirm that especially the presence of short segments located under pads (buried in the pad copper) trigger repeatedly this false detection. The issue was not present in 9.1, but it is very annoying in 9.2.1.

Hi,

I can confirm this still happens on 9.2.1 standard (I'm using Mac version).

You can find test files from https://gitlab.com/jartza/nepapsu/ - the nepapsu_v4 has lot of wire stub warnings for wires that are not stubs.

//Jari Tulilahti

Hi,

Even more erratic behaviour: I just closed Eagle, reopened the project and most of the wire stub warnings are gone, now DRC found few real wire stubs. After removing those, it again found some that are not stubs. Hope this has any help in diagnostics 🙂

//Jari Tulilahti

We could reproduce the case where wrong wire stubs we’re showing up and parts started disconnecting with move after library update or package replace. The fix will be released in the upcoming release. Thanks!

Hi,

stub detection is a useful feature that has IMO to stay on. I have used
freerouting.com earlier to draw a decent PCB for Eagle and stub
detection was working there pretty good (BTW, the sources are free :-))

Now Eagle can do similar things (not so elegant, but it is at least
growing in the right direction). But not being able to move a fully
routed boards to new coordinates (hopefully fully fixed) and unreliable
stub detection are heavy bugs. If I turn the stub detection off, I miss
the real stubs that other functions heavily produce as a side effect.

So, we cannot turn it off if we want a clean PCB.

I'm having the same false Wire Stub warnings in my project.
