I've tried to make my own library with a contactor and JUST for making a schematic in the first place.

It a coil and 4 NO switches - just a normal contactor.

I managed to get the "drawing" I see when I make the schematicto work - somehow I managed to get the symbols for the switch and the coil - wonder how, I can't tell right now !

BUT ...

I want to have the NUMBERS writen on the physical component for the coil and the 4 switches showing up on the schematic !

I think I need to define MY OWN 3D-package and footprint - it seems to my like I have to "import" 3d-packages and footprints and they already HAVE their numbers defined !

How can I make MY OWN ... OR ... maybe even import a "ready to use" contactor (Benedict & Jäger K3-14A10) ?

You have some options:

1) You can go into the Symbol in the library and number the pins as you like, then tell it to show the pin numbers.

2) You can go into the Symbol in the library and add text blocks, put those text blocks where you want them, and type in the pin numbers. This is what I do because it presents the most neatly laid out arrangement.

3) You could add text to your schematic, put those text blocks where you want them and type in the pin numbers.

I hope this helps.

OK we're making progress.

Use the Group tool to select everything and put it all on the same layer, or you can select each little piece one by one and check what layer each is on.

As to pin numbers, I generally tell it not to show them and I make my own. If you right click any pin it gives you the options of what to display. I choose to display none. Then I use the Text command to put text blocks (boxes) at each pin where I write (type) in the name I want for that pin. Sometimes I use numbers 1, 2, 3... and sometimes I use words (Vin, Vout, etc.). Your choice.

Please let us know how you make out.

Let's go back to here:

"Now the coil shows up when I insert the component and NEXT comes (one by one by clicking) the switches !!!

Too on each pin is shown a number from 1 .. 10 and the only place I can see these row of numbers is tha PAD number in the library.

Now remains:

1) How can I get the WHOLE component ( coil AND switches) the show up when inserted ?

2) Get rid of these PAD numbers 1 .. 10 - I have my own numbers already set DIFFERENT from 1 .. 10 ?

(It's the black numbers 1 .. 10 in the attachment I want to hide !)"

In the library in Symbol editor you can rename those pins using the Name command.

You can also determine whether the pins display those number by Right Click the pin, Properties, Visible.

As to the pins themselves showing up, there are different styles of pins which will display differently, and maybe that's where we're lost (in understanding each other). If you use the Pin command (to add a new pin) a horizontal toolbar opens up towards the top of the screen. You can choose from options along the lines of Point, Pin, Short, Medium, Long and many other options. The option you choose will determine what you see in your schematic.

Are we making progress?

And FYI, I don't work for Autodesk. I have this screen name because that's the e-mail address I used to sign up as I do on most sites so any spam can be dealt with and identified as to the source (you need a catch-all on your mail server to do it; it works great).

" Are we making progress? "

Not at all ... I think it's a total mess to get this to function and I'm close to give in !

You're talking about "showing up on different layers" ... that's NOT the problem - the problem is the component is showing up bit by bit for every click I do ... first the coil, the the switches one by one ... it should show up as a WHOLE unit by the first click I do - just like all other components do !

And the showing of pin numbers or names ... I simply DON'T get you ... here it doesn't work as I understand your explanation - it shouldn't be that complicated !

I'm not understanding what you mean when you say one part shows up at a time as you click. What are you clicking?

And you're saying you can't read number and I told you how to number the pins or put any numbers you want anywhere on the symbol.

I don't see there's anything more to help you with without some further clarification from your end.

I agree it's frustrating figuring out Eagle. You're not alone. Sorry I couldn't help. If you'd like to clarify some more I'll be happy to try again. Good luck with your project.

Read the manual on the library editor. What you have done is mark all the various bits of your relay as "Add=Next" when you want "Add=Always". Unfortunately most of the tutorials out there overlook this (or just ignore the case of multi-symbol devices entirely).

This did the job ... not the reading of the manual, but changing the "Add=" setting - thx !

Reading the manual is NOT a path to use if you only have to make a "Contactor component" in a hurry ... it shouldn't be that hard, I beleave the lib maneger is way too OVERcomplicated !
