HI Rachel,

I did make the change on the board first after I learned about net cases
but 9.2.2 came back and said basically no-go.....so I have to find the back
annotation which is probably right in front of me but I don't see it. I'll
try to hunt it down..

I like option 1 first....next time I'll back annotate as I would do in
Orcad.. Thank you

But as an electrical engineer retired I could not imagine 1 segment of a
net having one width and other segments having different
widths...electrically and temperature increases kinda tosses out IPC
standards out the window for track/width/temperature rise considerations.

I have yet to use the command as, personally, I have never gone that way
before.

I have 2 net cases...default and coax...please, when you get the time,
send back what that command line may look like which would give me good
clue on what to do from the command line in the future

I'm going to try option 1 on VCC and GND to see if the it goes back if I
can find the back annotate selection

Thanks for tips

Jay

In my schematic, on a given net with a few segments, I have to set each segment of that net to the case I set up...shouldn't the entire reflect the new case..why did I have to update each segment of the net? OR what did I do wrong

Hi Jay,

If you have a separate segments with the same name in the schematic, the default behaviour when you rename a segment is to rename only that segment. This generally works best for most use cases. However, there are times you want to rename the whole net, i.e. all the segments. There are a couple of ways you can do this:

1) Do the rename in the board where it is considered as a single entity and the back annotation will change every segment in the schematic.

2) Issue the following command before renaming:

SET Cmd.Name.RenameEntireNetByDefault 1

Do you renaming and then set the value back to 0. You could add these to shortcuts if it's something you think you might need to do more often but I've never found the need to do this personally.

Best Regards,

Hi Jay,

i think i misunderstood your previous post. I thought it was just relating to renaming net segments in the schematic. Now I see you are referring to net classes and the electrical properties they convey. Any one net can have only 1 net class. But if you change the net class after it is routed it doesn’t automatically change the route to obey the class.

Also so when I said back annotation, I was referring to the continuous automatic back annotation which goes both ways between schematic and board all the time so long as you keep them both open.

If I still haven’t got the right end of the stick let me know and I will try and answer better tomorrow.

Best Regards,

...and I will bet I didn't have the schematic open...I have to remember they handshake dynamically....way different then Orcad 🙂
