So the next question is how do I replace JUST the 3D model on a variant? I want to use the same footprint, but a different package - ESP32 with internal antenna vs external antenna. Create new version didn't help here, and neither do any of these options. @jorge.garcia I think models should be assigned at the variant level so existing footprints can be reused. It looks like I'm going to have to create a new footprint to make this work 😕

I had a local library and finally figured out that to add 3d packages to the components I had to make it a managed library, which added a blank 3d model to each component and allowed me to edit them. Krufty, but at least there is some way to do it.

But now I need to add a new component to the library. I create the symbol and the footprint. Aaaaand I'm back to square one. There does not appear to be a way to add a 3d model to this variant. It appears that I would need to revert back to my original non-managed library, delete the managed library on library.io, create a new managed library then redo all of the 3d models just to add this new component... Or is the new way of doing things to create a new library for every part????

John,

I agree with you that this functionality needs some improvement and knowledge of this isn't widespread.

Here's how I do it:

Open the library and click create new version

When it finishes, you'll have an entry in the 3d model category for your new part

Doesn't get much less intuitive than that 😉

But it works. Thanks for the tip.
