How do I freeze top-layer while working with bottom-layer?

Hello everyone,

I decided to make second extende variant of the board. So, i started working with second layer.

I managed to place a few components upon botom-layer.

However, it's quite not comfortable to work when top layer is visible and active (components can be moved accidentally).

So, question is how to freeze top-layer and make it temporarily invisible .

There are a few things you can do here:

1) Turn off the top layer in the selection filter (depending on EAGLE version, I think you need 9.4 for this).

2) Turn off the top layer altogether so it's invisible from in the visible layers dialog.

3) Go old school and turn off the tOrigins layer in the visible layers dialog (but that's so 2018 🤣)

I'm puzzled a bit... 🤔

there's a lot stuff about layers there;
there's selection filter which contains a preset called 'Preset-top';
if I choose 'Preset-top' it highlights all layers related to top-layer;

So, question is, how to deactivate all highlighted layers with a single button click? 😀

I mean I will have to select twelve highlighted layers and switch off them.

It's the 21st century. Isn't it? 🤣

It is convenient to assign the desired layers to your favorite and switch them with two clicks. 21st century after all!

As @Yura.Ivanov.VLuki is hinting at, Eagle lets you define as many custom layer sets as you like. It's true that you need to click a dozen layers the first time in order to define each one... but that's the price of flexibility.

Yep, it will, that's the preset for the top layer so it's going to select those layers....

How about pressing the button called 'Preset-bottom'?

It's one click just like it should be in the 21st century 🤣

Now you can happily work away on the bottom layer without fear of altering the top layer components and you can still see them for reference if you need to.

that's the point! It just highlights related layers only, not more.

I did everything as @Yura.Ivanov.VLuki suggested. Fortunately it turned out a workable stuff in my case. 👍

No, you are missing the point. This is the selection filter. It will make it so you can only select things on the highlighted layers. I.e. it filters the selection to only the layers selected.

So, you want to be able to edit the bottom layer whilst making the top layer un-editable. This is EXACTLY what my solution above allows you to do. I do this all the time and it works.

Ah.. Ok,

I've cheked that. Yes, it freezes other layer only.

However it doesn't clean up unnecessary components related to freezed layer.

So, there's a mess on the board without cleaning up. Isn't it?

try @Yura.Ivanov.VLuki variant it makes cleaning effect.😉

What do you mean cleaning up? Just making invisible (i.e turning the layers off)? If so that was also one of the suggestions in my initial reply, @Yura.Ivanov.VLuki just spelled it out more clearly as to how to do it with presets.

Basically if you want to still be able to see the other layer for reference, then do it with the selection filter. If you don't want to see them at all then do it in the layers dialog.

You can also use single layer mode which will make the bottom layer stand out while making everything else greyed out.

In summary, there are lots of ways to achieve what you need 🙂

"За один клик не получится, но можно использовать скрипт mylayers.scrкак образец, отредактировав под свои хотелки.

Затем сохранить со своим именем и запускать за два клика."

It won 't work in one click, but you can use the mylayers.scr script as a sample by editing under your hotbeds.

Then save with your name and run in two clicks.
