Regarding "In general, we recommend that users make decisions based on what is available at the time of purchase since future plans can change." : this does not apply to legacy users that have 100's of pre-existing designs that have been done on Eagle. For me, that means starting with Eagle 4 and now Eagle 9.6.2 with about 400 board designs in my portfolio. Telling me that I can no longer have access to that deep pool of design work, because AutoDesk will not allow stand alone version to continue or give a ITAR compliant cloud option is unbelievable. Now, I can revert back to Eagle 6 but that would not help for any recent designs and I would not have access to any new libraries that I have created or modified since upgrading to later versions. This path of unsecured and misguided cloud nonsense is really going to cost a LOT of users a lot of time, money and headache, while losing a countless customers who will be forced to move to other solutions (not AutoDesk). Again and again, I am not disparaging some of the nice convenience features that come with cloud. It just needs to be secure & ITAR certified, at least as an option, or somehow maintain option for local only storage, on a project by project basis.

Just saw the news that Eagle is no longer going to be developed on and with be unsupported by 2026. ITAR restrictions will not allow files to be stored on the cloud unless those servers are ITAR controlled. Will Fusion 360 Electronics have an ITAR controlled version released soon, or should we start looking to switch away from Autodesk?

I have seen that there was an ITAR requirements poll conducted back in 2017. I know that for myself and others that are coming to Fusion by way of Eagle, we did not all use Fusion that far back. As Eagle stand-alone is being phased out in a couple more years, this is now a very big deal. I don't see why AutoDesk does not see an opportunity here, even if the ITAR compliant option requires a marginally more expensive subscription price, it would be worth it. An extra $150 per year or something like that would be absolutely tolerable to have an ITAR compliant option/feature. I have posted in these forums, repeatedly, that an even simpler solution would be to have a option to make some designs local storage only, and let the user choose between cloud features versus self determined ITAR & security, on a project by project basis. That seems like the best most obvious improvement to allow ITAR needful users to keep going on this platform. However, the dev management seem obsessed with "cloud" so at least make ITAR compliant cloud available, at a reasonable additional cost (at same price would be great, but not realistic).

Jorge, could you please forward the following proposition up the chain:

I really wish Autodesk would offer long time subscription users perpetual off line license to use the last Eagle version. As Autodesk has not released any new versions of Eagle for three and a half years anyway, I really don't expect anything there. But one final version having off line license feature and giving the license for old subscribers would make it so much easier to cope with the future migration to other suitable platforms.

This would also make it easier to revert the current decision, if Autodesk changes their mind.

In the mean time, I continue to answer to emails from Autodesk's sales persons asking about the future of Eagle.

BR

 Antti Louko

2026 is going to be a DISASTER for those of us with more than a decade of designs and custom libraries in Eagle, that CAN NOT migrate into a cloud regime, at least one that is not ITAR compliant, and preferably not even that. (I can for some projects, but case by case). Being forced into Fusion Electronics is not actually that bad (I actually like Fusion). I don't mind that, and would be honestly happy to continue on with FUSION except that there is no apparent plan to implement an off-line project mode that does not sync certain projects to the cloud (ever). This sense of bullying long time Eagle users into cloud based work flows is why I know a LOT of Eagle users have kept using the last sustainable perpetual stand alone license version. Eagle 7.#. Unfortunately there is no way to roll back library for file compatibility to older versions. I was eager to explore what Autodesk was offering, so i allowed upgrade to 9.6.2, and started paying for the full Fusion 360 package. However, I did not expect to be held hostage like this. This complete disregard for the paying customer's needs and desires is at the least stupid and short-sighted, and at worst, insanely arrogant and even evil. I do not understand the mentality. As June 2026 gets closer... the intensity of ill-will toward Autodesk can only get worse, unless simple and sensible solutions are offered.

Yes and the sames goes for their CAM products. HSMworks and Inventor CAM are the only ITAR compliant solutions that are integrated with CAD. HSMworks is done after 2028 and Inventor CAM is basically becoming obsolete on it's own because they haven't done any upgrades to it for years. FeatureCAM, PartMaker, and PowerMill are going to be next most likely even though they are ITAR compliant and excellent products. And what are manufacturers going to do with all their parts programmed in HSMworks? They don't transfer to Fusion without tremendous work around that doesn't make it worth while. And even then all your files are on the Cloud. Yeah this is going to be an interesting road ahead.

In this chain, there has not yet been a solution offered. "available at the time of purchase" was Eagle with standalone (off-line storage) functionality. The solution that has been in existence for Eagle Users is going away in 2026. Downgrading functionality of a product is a horrible way to evolve a product offering. For new users, this is perhaps not a big deal, if they want off-line functionality, look elsewhere, but for long time users of Eagle... we are being massively downgraded for no good obvious reason.

Has anyone heard anything at all about potential for ITAR compliance? Whether a full offline mode or an itar cloud compliant option like AWS?

Hello @crossi3AEMC,

I hope you're doing well. Nothing new to announce at this point other than it is being investigated and worked on. From what I've been told the first step to ITAR compliance is being able to regionalize the data, make sure it doesn't leave the region from which it was created. Fusion has already made strides on this front but this first phase is still not complete. I keep passing this feedback up the chain, Autodesk leadership will determine how and when to act on it.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,

Hi Jorge,

Thank you for the update. One issue I have that is perhaps touchy, is that, even if you "regionalize" the data, you must also ensure that any personnel that may have access, are citizens of the appropriate regions or affiliated trusted regions. I may be misinformed, but it is my understanding that the client data stored in the cloud via fusion is technically accessible by AutoDesk personnel and that strict policy against unauthorized access is the only real block to preventing such unauthorized access. So that the access issue is one of trust rather than a hard practical security "containerized" inaccessibility. Considering that in the USA, AutoDesk employs a large number of H1B visa holders in technical positions, it would seem that the possibility exists for ITAR violations, even if only in theory. Can you comment on this? Is this a mischaracterization of a potential issue?

Hi @engineering ,

I'll defer to the Autodesk Fusion security white paper for the full details https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Autodesk-Fusion-360-White-Paper.html

From what I know, Autodesk personnel does not have access to customer data stored on the cloud. The data is encrypted and stored using AWS not Autodesk's own servers. So on that front their is no concern with Autodesk personnel. Also as I mentioned from what I've been told regionalization would be the first step, there are still more to go after that. Thank you for asking the detailed question, we still have a ways to go before ITAR certification for Fusion is a thing.

Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

Best Regards,
