Hey,

I know there are a few threads out there already about this topic, but somehow I couldnt solve my problem yet.

I am an eagle beginner and I basically want to connect a rectangular pad to a hall sensor to measure current.

Since I need a pad in the size of 17mmx19mm(hxw) and it is only possible to get round or square pads in eagle, I tried to draw a polygon with 17x19mm around my pad. But somehow it does not seem to work. I tryed it with polygon and rect tool.

That is how it looks:

But when I now look at it in fusion 360 in 3D it looks like that:

What am I doing wrong?

Which layers do I need to draw the polygon or the rect on, so that it is recognized as a pad extension?

Also, how can I copy the finished pad to several layers without having to draw them manually again?

Thanks for your help !

Best regards

Lukas

You drew the platform. Everything is good. Alternatively, if you want to open it for soldering, you must copy the polygon to the mask layer.

That is exactly how I want my pads to look! How did you do that?

Did you use polygon tool or rect tool to draw the pads?

If I could use the rect tool it would be easier for me since I need to draw several pads on exact positions.

And which layers did you draw on? I guess since I want to measure current with those pads I need to open it for soldering, right? Maybe I missunderstood but I dont have a mask layer.

Thanks again !

If they are SMD pads, you can specify any rectangular size you want, just by typing into the size drop-down.

If you need a large surface around a PTH hole, you need to use Eagle's "Arbitrary pad shape" feature. This feature ONLY WORKS WITH POLYGONS, so you can't use the rectangle tool.

If you want an exposed copper pad, suitable for soldering, then it consists not only of the copper but also of a mask in the solder resist. This is the "tStop" layer. For SMD assembly, you will also want to put down some paste, which you define in the "tCream" layer. For default pads, Eagle looks after all this for you. For arbitrary shape polygon pads, you need to draw both those layers yourself. I believe the rectangle tool is acceptable for those layers.

All of this is detailed in the manual, which was installed as a PDF alongside the program.
