Here's another way to do it. Make two ARRAYPATHs of the hinge part and use the edge of the doors as the paths. When the edge of the doors get stretched the arrays will follow.

I have a door with a piano type hinge. I can easily stretch the door height but the hinge does not act all the way I expect it to. It immediately goes to double the door height and then adds segments from there. I have messed with this on and off for months and can't figure it out.

Thanks it works but how did you do it? I see that the HINGE_ARRAY is chained, but to what? Can you give the details as to what steps you took to do this? Every time I tried something like this I got the wrong outcome.

When I try it I get an extra hinge segment at the top that extend beyond the base door and when I stretch the door nothing happens.

Shorten the door sides enough to stop the array. (by 1" ?) Draw in a couple segments to fill the gap and add them to the stretch action.

The stretch action only needs to stretch the object used as the path of array. It does not need to include the array itself.

Figured it out. Finally. Thanks for the tip on the ARRAYPATH command. Never used it before because I do mostly Electrical drawings with AutoCAD Electrical and the Vanilla flavor commands are frowned upon in that environment.

I tried what you said and applied it to a different drawing and it didn't work. The path was much shorter that the minimum distance of the array. How do I fix this in this example?

@larrin_habeger Here you go

You needed to create two path arrays, one for the left half and one for the right half. The left half array starts at the midpoint and the right half array starts three quarters of the way along.

EDIT: You can have the same effect with two linear arrays, but it gets a bit more complicated as you need to chain the arrays to the linear stretch and you need to make sure the linear parameters are the correct width
