Which IFC Versions are supported?

Data Exchange for IFC supports all official IFC versions (IFC 2x3, IFC4, IFC4.3)

Which ACC License is required for Data Exchange?

Currently, you only need access to Autodesk Docs to use Data Exchange.

When is Data Exchange for IFC going to be official / public and not BETA?

We are currently collecting feedback and expanding the features ased on your requests to be able to ensure full support in the most common use cases. To help us reach our goal earlier, please share your feedback on our User forum or through

If I manually select elements in a Data Exchange created from an IFC file, will those selections persist and automatically reflect changes when a new version of the IFC file is uploaded?

Yes, the data exchange will be automatically updated whenever a new version of the IFC file is available. The filters that were chosen during the creation of the DX will persist, meaning if you Data Exchange contains only walls and windows, then only updates for these elements will be considered.

When creating a DX, is it possible to exclude specific internal parameters (let's say I don't want to show cost parameter/values) without removing the entire element from the exchange? I’d prefer not to rely on Dynamo scripts or modify the IFC export settings. Is there a way to control parameter visibility directly within ACC or DX?

Currently, this is not possible, but we are working on providing this capability in the future.

What is the major difference/benefit between using Data Exchange or exporting as an open format, like IFC to share with other softwares?

The major difference is certainly that Data Exchanges are not files - but granular data, that can be accessed in an entirely different and selective way directly through the API. One example is the Power BI workflow, where Data Exchanges can be used to create dashboards. Thinking further, the same APIs can also provide easier access to your AI agents or other AI-powered workflows in the future.

Does it also work with custom properties also or does it only work for ifc schemas?

Data Exchange converts all properties, including the custom properties.

Will the data available in the IFC exchange be available through the Power Automate data connector?

Yes. Fore more information on the Power BI Connector, please check our official documentation: Data Exchange Help | Power Automate Connector for Data Exchanges | Autodesk

Are we gonna be able to hide those lines in pipes one day?

IFC today is based on STEP and all official Model View Definitions are using faceted BReps, which unfortunately means that round objects such as Pipes are tessellated. We understand that this is not ideal - but currently cannot be avoided when working with IFC. Dedicated Data Exchange Connectors which allow you to exchange data between system directly, might provide a possible workaround for this in the future.

Which coordinate system is used when creating or loading data Exchanges?

Data Exchange uses the 'internal origin'. When loading data exchanges into Revit, user can select the origin to be used (today available in the Revit connector). Refer to the Advanced Load section from the help doc: https://help.autodesk.com/view/DATAEXCHANGE/ENU/?guid=revit-load-and-unload-data-exchanges

Which versions of Revit is supported by data exchange?

Revit 2024, 2025 and Revit 2026. You can download it from here: https://apps.autodesk.com/BIM360/en/Detail/Index?id=3965085804197331548&appLang=en&os=Win64&mode
If you use older Revit versions, you will need to upgrade these iin order to create Data Exchanges. Revit Cloud models can be upgraded automatically through ACC (How to upgrade a Revit Cloud model in ACC)

Is this only a 1:1 relationship for reloading from updates? As in if I load an exchange to Revit - then copy one element 10x (lets assume it was a cube) then it updates later to a cylinder - will it update the geometry of both the parent and the 10 children? or do the 10 children just disappear or remain as cubes.

In general, all children (copies) will be updated, and will retain their position in the model. For more complex workflows, we recommend to test the behavior and make sure it behaves as expected.

Is there a plan for an ArchiCAD and Vectorworks connector?

Currently, we are focusing on maturing our existing Beta connectors, but feel free to submit any connector requests through our Data Exchange Roadmap. In addition, we offer the SDK which we use to build our connectors to the community as well - so that third-parties or other software vendors can build there own connectors.

What is the main purpose of Data Exchange? Is it primarily meant for continuing work in another software, or for enabling better linking between tools? And if so, why is it possible to delete the imported data?

Data Exchanges can be used in various workflows, including coordination, documentation, dashboarding in Power BI - or also simply accessing it through the API for other purposes. It is correct that the imported data can be deleted, however it can also be restored very easily by reloading the original data exchange, therefore offers a high degree of flexibility for many workflows.

How do exchanges handle internal file references like xrefs in dwg files? Do I need to bundle referenced files when I create an exchange from a dwg (when you have an AutoCAD exchange)?

Please note that the AutoCAD connector is still in Beta and does have some limitations if compared to the Revit connector, which allows creating data exchanges including the Revit Links. However, we are working on expanding the capabilities of other Connectors in the future, please feel free to submit any feature requests through our Data Exchange Roadmap.

Q&A Summary

If your question is not answered here, please drop us a comment here or send an E-Mail on data.exchange.support@autodesk.com.
