The question is what logic would one classify by?

Here is an approach to consider. We have a way of accessing approximate elevations based on DEMs pretty much across the globe. If a person had unclassified lidar (on a known system) it seems reasonable that software could compare the lidar point elevation to the grid cell and potentially separate existing ground (class 2) from the rest. That of course would assume no significant disturbance has taken place.

Hi,

I have a point cloud file (*.las) not classified (filtered).

Is there a method to make the classification in ReCap or in C3D? I tried but not possible in my test!

Do you have any suggestion for an Autodesk or free download application to make unclassified scan data (las) to classify it (create filter like Ground, Building, etc.?

Regards

Tesfaye Kebede

Trimble Civil Engineering and Construction

Tesfaye,
I highly recommend the free >>>LAStools<<<.
Please post your LAS file. If the zipped size is over 75MB, then you can use Autodesk Drive, WeTransfer, or DropBox, etc.
Dave

With the current workflow Autodesk is promoting, the classification is done in Infraworks prior to import to C3D.

The workflow goes Recap - Infraworks - C3D.

Download Dotsoft Lidar Tools from the appstore and you'll get the classification functions back.

How do you create a surface in C3D with unclassified point cloud and export as DEM?

And DEM export function works well in the US country kit.

In Norwegian kit not possible to set the Correct CRS. See the attached Image.

Sorry I was talking theory (thinking out loud) in my previous post.

Your best choice today is the LasGround tool in the LasTools posted by PointDump above (#2).
