topic Re: .mms file being created for surfaces not meeting point threshold in Civil 3D Forum

The question now is why is there a mismatch between these two "Number of Points" fields. This surface was created using the "Create Surface from GIS Data" command and a shapefile with 2ft contours. If I extract the contours from the surface as polylines, create a new surface, and add these polylines to the new surface's definition as contours, the "Number of Points" fields match up. What unnecessary data is C3D grabbing during the "Create Surface from GIS Data" command to create this type of bloating? AutoDesk, care to explain?

C3D keeps creating .mms files for surfaces that are significantly smaller than the 2 million point threshold given in this AKN article. Any thoughts on why or how to avoid?

Found the answer myself. I was looking at the wrong value: I was looking at Points under "Surface Properties", but I should have been looking at Points under the Properties palette.
