Computer freezing, keyboard and mouse stop working, and nothing shows up in event viewer

I have been having this issue for a few weeks now, essentially everything will be working fine until cad just stops responding along with everything else on the computer, it's like the whole computer is frozen, only way to fix it is to restart.

My specs:

Civil 3d 2019

Windows 10 pro

Ryzen 7 5800x

Radeon pro W5500

Msi B550 (gaming)

Samsung Evo 980 500gb

16GB Corsair ram 3600mhz

Nzxt Kraken cooler 120mm

All drivers for hardware and software are up to date, including Bios.

I'm not sure what the issue is, recently i just replaced the CPU from a Ryzen 7 3800x to the 5800x, and at first i thought it might have been that the CPU was just bad and just needed to be replaced, but this instance of freezing only happens while I'm in CAD, right after I do a random command, the frequency of this is about 1-2 times a day.

also wondering if it could have something to do with the turbo boost frequency which gets up to 4.8GHz but i would assume that cad doesn't have issues with faster CPUs.

Also, nothing will show up in event viewer at all when this happens.

if anyone else is having this issue let me know what I can do to resolve it, i would prefer to not replace my CPU but if i have to i will.

AutoCAD can only use one core of the processor. Does the turbo boost involve more than one core/thread? I don't know if there's a link there or not, but it might be worth a test to see if it freezes when the turbo is turned off.

Also, you might try turning hardware acceleration off in GRAPHICSCONFIG.

I experience freezing often when selecting objects, but it is usually temporary - a minute or two. Lately our network has been responsible. Resource intensive apps like C3D or Trimble Business Center will freeze completely, but less intensive apps like Explorer I can still get to respond. I'm remoting in, but I think it's bigger than that. Is anyone else on your team experiencing lockups?

Another place to look is Windows' Quick Access. If this is laden with many files and folders, it can cause just what you're talking about. I had it happen to me. I suffered for a couple months, then saw a post on Reddit. Paring the entries down to a minimum had immediate results.

Thank you guys so much for the help, but it turns out the issue was something to do with a default BIOS setting that didn't provide enough power to the CPU during low load/idle states.

I had to disable C-State Control (can be called something else on other motherboards), I'll link the forum explaining it here!

Haven't had the issue since!

So there's a few things that could be going on here, I've experienced similar issues with cad while working remote (not VPN) and here's what i changed.

COMPUTER SIDE:

First off network is definitely a big one, I would make sure you are hardwired into your modem at home with at least a cat-6 cable, at our office we have 500MBs down/ 500MBs up, and at home I have 400MBs down/ 15MBs up.

depending on the remote client you are using speeds can vary as well, personally I just use chrome remote desktop since it's easy and I don't need to contact our IT team for proper setup.

here's a little tool I use to make sure it's not the work network connecting slowly to the office Drives (https://totusoft.com/lanspeed) It'll ask for a serial number when you first open it, just click on the X and you can use the basic features to measure the speed from your computer to the project folders you are pulling data from. you can also download this to your at home computer and test the network speed between home and work to see if that is also responsible.

disable the windows 10 device performance and health scans, I have found this to be extremely annoying as it will very frequently scan your system to generate a health report.

CAD:

make sure features like (regenmode) is set to 0 not 1, since it makes the drawing regenerate every time you do something, keep in mind you will have to type in (regen) whenever you need to refresh it.

the sheet set manager could also be causing some problems, if you are working with one you can set (SSMSHEETSTATUS) to a value of 0 which will turn off the automatic refresh. this should help out with some performance issues.

(AUDIT) and (PU-regapps) also helps with cleaning up the file if there's a lot errors that could be causing it to be slow overall.

If you have a lot of external references i would suggest making a copy to your C drive and referencing them to work off of, however this can be a problem without communicating with everyone who is working on the external files, along with there being a massive amount of external references.
