Do each of the items he wants cut/fill volumes for grade to "daylight" on existing grade?
If yes, then you could generate volume surfaces for each item as a stand alone calculation.
If they don't grade back to existing elevations independent of other proposed features though, I'm not sure how you would calculate a useful volume.
Perhaps I'm not understanding the intent..?

i've got several large townhome sites that i've got to do cut and fill calculations on. the sites consist of corridors for roads and swales and polylines for ponds and building pads. all that stuff is easy to create and get individual volumes from but what do i do about all the in between spaces? there are places that aren't ponds, roads or swales that are getting cut or filled. i could spend hours creating small surfaces to fill in the gaps but is that worth the time and effort? especially when the project is still undergoing changes. is there a better work flow?

Generally, I typically paste all the individual component surfaces into one "Total Site" grading surface to make a composite, then add featurelines or occasionally a few hand-drafted contours to the "Total Site" surface between the pieces to force triangulation to fill the 'holes' between the individual components.

i did that on one project and it seemed to work ok. the engineer wants cut and fill volumes for each swale and pond separately plus the datum volume for each road. i guess he just needs to subtract all that out from the overall cut and fill volume?
