Note: I rolled back to C3D 2023.1 and the pipe direction arrows are behaving acceptably. So it certainly appears to me that there is an issue with that update (C3D 2023.2). Y'all have been warned: maybe wait on installing 2023.2.

Mike Kitchen

I believe there is now a bug with pipe flow direction labels in C3D 2023.2. If one's pipe is aligned in the NE quadrant the arrow will point toward the top of the viewport irrespective of the actual flow direction of the pipe (switching to flow method "by slope" does not fix it). The attached screen shots show what I mean. The first has the pipe in NW quadrant (azimuth 270-<360) the arrow points as it should, downslope. In the second, I moved the structures so the pipe is now in the NE quadrant (az=0-90). The arrow changes direction and points to the upper manhole.

Notes:

- This label has worked correctly through 8 previous versions (from C3D 2015). I have not altered it.

- This just started happening since the last C3D update. This particular drawing worked just fine before--now it does not.

- The start structure is MH16, the end structure is MH17. The label shows start invert over end invert. Slope label is +ive down (local standard). Not that it matters as the behaviour is the same when the flow method is "by slope."

@Anonymous, is there a fix for this? Is anyone else having this problem?

Mike Kitchen

Osprey Engineering Inc.

I'm not very knowledgeable with this issue (haven't seen it). I would check that pipes are being created in the same direction as the previous version. Perhaps there was a template settings change for some reason?

Hi Brian

Thanks for the reply. Apparently no one's figured this one out yet. The template has not changed. And the drawing where I noticed the bug was created prior to the latest update. I tried in a new drawing created from that template. Same behaviour. I can only guess that some sort of change to how pipe labels are dealt with was introduced in 2023.2.

@Anonymous: Any word on this? I have attached the sample drawing. Move MH1 to the east and north of MH2 and you'll see the arrow flip direction.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I am experiencing the same problem, whenever the pipe bearing is greater than 90d the labels does not anchor as intended. hopefully we get a fix soon.

Please try to uninstall the update (Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features-> Installed Updates -> Select Civil 3D 2023.2 Update and Click Uninstall)

I've tested this without the update and it works as expected.
