C3D Labels not showing unless I REGEN

I'm running 2023. I noticed right away that the C3D labels don't show unless I do a REGEN. It only happens through the paper space viewport, not in model space.

I don't think so. My labels seem to be Pipe labels and Spot Elevations. Those don't seem to be part of that labeling group listed in the new feature.

Adaptive Labels with Level of Detail Support

This new and optional performance feature called Adaptive Labels supports Civil 3D Group Labels in Profile Views and Section Views. The new code is designed to reduce the redraw issues of lots of Civil 3D Profile View and Section Views Groups labels in larger Plan Production Plan and Profile and Pages of Sections Sheet drawings.

There are new commands in the Ribbons and the Status bar to implement Adaptive Label redraw control.

In the updated Civil 3D Status bar, the Adaptive Label Group icon manages the new AECCLABELOPTIMZE system variable. When this is turned on Group Labels that are outside the modelspace viewport range are not drawn.
We might consider this a WYSIWYG approach where Civil 3D ignores and does not redraw the unseen.

The following non-staggered labels are supported for Adaptive Label Groups:

All Alignment label groups.
All Profile label groups.
All Section label groups (section offset label group, segment label group, grade break label group, etc.)
All Profile View band label groups.
All Section View band label groups.

A new AECCLABELOPTFLAGS system variable managed by the Adaptive Label Group interface tool allows us to control and manage the redraw behavior of Group Labels in Profile Views and Section Views.

0 Neither of above two settings are turned on
1 Regen the labels if needed when the view is panned or zoomed
2 Reduce the number of labels that are drawn inside the viewport
3 Both the above two settings are turned on

We can easily test the Adaptive Labels and see how these new interface controls and system variables work with a single Profile View and an added group of Profile View Band Styles.

One other issue I've found. If you you set the viewport type to plan or profile instead of undefined the labels and civil 3d labels and objects don not draw when it is outside of the viewport or where you are zoomed into locally.

You are right. I was able to reproduce the issue and have escalated this issue to the Product Development Team.

Please try to uninstall the update (Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features-> Installed Updates -> Select Civil 3D 2023.2 Update and Click Uninstall)

I've tested this without the update and it works as expected.

Too much to ask that we aren't continually beta testing updates for a product we spend enormous amounts of money on. Difficult to be productive when we have to fight through constant bugs/errors/crashes.

Regenauto is broken, but I have found that after you label if it isn't showing that if you hover your cursor over where the label should be it shows, move the cursor off the position and the label goes away, until you do a regen. Now, I'm only using C3D 2023 no updates. I posted another circumstance that makes the labels not show in the Update 2023.2 thread.

Hi all,

It appears that the behavior is caused by a new variables added to the 2023.2 update. It's called

AeccViewportOpt, it hides or displays labels outside current view. For paperspace only. The reason for this is to improve performance, especially when switching from modelspace to paperspace.

By default, it's turned ON after you've applied the 2023.2 update

I would be asking Autodesk just what variables were added with that update. In this forum an Autodesk support person listed what the new variables were with 2023.2 update. Once known, that helped isolate what might be defaulted to demonstrate this issue. You are not the only one with 2022 updated that has commented on this.

The AECCVIEWPORTOPT set to off in every new file worked for me to solve the disappearing labels and I kept the 2023.2 update installed. I also found that the labels were un-editable when in the VP, the edit label style dialog box would not show up I had to use the properties palette. Running the aforementioned command fixed these issues.

I have AECCVIEWPORTOPT=0 and the status bar icon turned off, but my alignment labels constantly disappear in my viewports. I still have to do a REGENALL just to see them again. This particular project is a small one, but Autodesk really needs to fix this "feature" so that it stops ruining production.

@TimYarris I hope the C3D team is looking in how to actually fix this. It's seriously hindering plan production when labels constantly disappear even when the "feature" is turned off.
