Hi @AllenJessup

<<…Our new Data Collector won't read JP2 files...>>

Can your new data collector read geotiff? If you

<<Image formats such as MrSID, JP2 and geotiffs do NOT need world files because they have their projection ‘built-in.’ File types such as png, tif, and jpeg, among others, need world files so they can be inserted without scaling, rotating and positioning. This is not to say world files are absolutely necessary, it just means if the projection isn’t built-in then you’ll need to manually scale, rotate and position old school style.>>

Using Raster Design, you can use IEXPORT command to export your image. Sorry but you’ll need to export each image individually. This command uses a wizard(ish). On the 3rd page, you have options to select image format.

If you have your image(s) in a dwg file then you can start IEXPORT from there. Make sure the dwg file has an assign coordsys and verify the image is georefernced by turning on Bing Map for comparison. If the image is not positioned correctly you’ll need to manually move/scale/rotate it b/c if you don’t, your exported image won’t be accurate.

Here’s a >>VIDEO<< by Jeff Bartels that demonstrates the procedure. You may already know how to do the first half so that part may be redundant. The latter half of the video provides good explanations.

Does anyone have a workflow for converting numerous files along with the world file? Our new Data Collector won't read JP2 files. I can open the JP2 files and save them as JPG files from a raster editor and copy the world file and change the extension. But that's cumbersome.

I tried to see if it was easier in Raster Design. But that's not working right now. It looks like I'll have to do a reinstall. But that means I'll have to involve IT. I'm not even going there until after Thanksgiving.

Better File Rename is shareware that renames multiple files at once (up to 11) and saves the parameters for later use. Purchased copy does away with the 11 file limit.

ReaConverter 7 converts large numbers of image files to another image format. It has limited uses until its paid for, but it is cheap. It even converts plt files to PDF.
