Serious Glitch - Multiple Drawing Tabs (version 2019)

You know how if you're juggling several projects, or several parts of a project at the same time and you have to have 2 or more dwgs open at a time, AutoCAD will create tabs above your work drawing? Now you're trying to use a command such as MOVE where you need to select objects and then hit [enter] to confirm that selection to get to the next step of the command. But instead, nothing happens and AutoCAD is still letting you select more objects and you can't get it to progress. You can exit that command and try, try again, but the same thing keeps happening and you're just stuck. When this happens, visit one of your other tabs, probably the last one you visited before the glitch. You'll be greeted with a prompt of the last command you entered in that tab. If you exit that command, it will come up again, and again, and again, and again as many times as you attempted the command in the tab you were being glitched out of.

Basically, when you changed tabs, the software sorta changed tabs but is also still sorta in the other one. Fortunately, you are unable to confirm a command in either tab so you can't screw up the tab AutoCAD is herp derping around in. The work around is to just save the work in your current tab, close only it and reopen it. You don't have to restart all of AutoCAD just yet, but you might want to get to that as soon as you can. I'm not sure how something this elementary makes into a released version of the software. I really wish they'd do better.

When switching from one tab to another, make sure you're not in the 'middle' of a command. Before leaving your current drawing, finish the command OR exit from the command by hitting ESC.

I've seen this and don't have a solution. I'm only chiming in to thank you for teaching me a new word: Hurpdurping. The dictionary spells it Herp Derping. I'm not being pedantic, I just want others to be able to look it up.

This bug in AutoCAD is indeed "stupid behavior."

This happens for me between drawings that have no surfaces. I will try this, but I believe it will be neither here nor there.

I always complete a command before switching tabs, most of the time I am unable to select a tab in the middle of a command anyway, so that has trained me to not usually attempt that. However, on large and slow drawings while waiting for it to process a save or regenerate, I will click over to Infinity, Excel, Adobe, or Chrome for deed research or point processing while waiting on Civil 3D and that really can't be helped.

I also try to complete a command before switching tabs. However, my experience has been that it doesn't matter. I'll complete a command, switch tabs, start something simple like MOVE, and nothing happens. Going back to the previous tab, I find that the MOVE command has been started over there.

Whenever I run into this issue, I'll just visit my other tabs and press escape a few times to cancel out of anything that might be happening there. No need to close and open drawings.

Ok, there's a step to save. That's great, thanks.

But I mean, if you're driving 70 miles an hour down a highway and your whole car sudden shuts down and you coast to a stop, that would normally be disturbing. If all you had to do was pop the hood and push down a wire near the battery to keep going, no big deal right? Or is it? You'd probably want to get that fixed.

Based on my experience, I've only ever seen this when LEVELOFDETAIL was turned on for other users. I run with a lot of drawing tabs open. I never have LEVELOFDETAIL on, and one other thing I shut off is FILETABTHUMBHOVER. These have been in my startup sequence for at least 6 or 7 years.

I've had LEVELOFDETAIL set to off now since this post and haven't had a problem since. Even in drawings without a DTM. It may be a bit soon, but I do think this is working.
