I also built them into the templates of the company, but our cad people had to redo them 4/10 times. that was long ago tho, right now I just decided to relinquish with my paradigm of having both the north arrow and grid array in pspace and thanks to the suggestion of vandenoosterkamp just started using them as annotative objects in mspace... one less visit to the layouts is always good

Dynamic North Arrows Bug?

When using a dynamic north arrow linked to a viewport, the north arrow will sometimes point north for the page and not the viewport even though the viewport is rotated. This happens when switching between layout tabs in a drawing. Sometimes the arrow will point north relative to paper space, and sometimes the arrow will point in the north relative to the viewport's rotation. This seems to switch back and forth each time I switch back to a layout tab using a dynamic north arrow.

Is this a bug that needs to be fixed, or is there a setting that needs to be toggled to solve this issue?

Thanks.

No, it is not a bug that needs to be fixed, it's a useless feature that never should have been invented in the first place. Every old skool acad user has the vport shape in defpoints and copies them north arrows in a split second in the right place. It's just the 10000th feature no one needs which they keep on adding to slow this crap down.

I remember this being a bug back in 2011 when I first learned AutoCad, then having huge issues with it in 2018 because the f***rs CRASHED autocad when looked at sideways and now that I'm back using C3D extensively are a massive pain in the lower back again because they STILL crash acad. this issue has been haunting me for 13 years already!

Hmm very odd I have been using the dynamic north arrow for at least 4-6 years now and have ever had this issue. I even build company C3D templates and still don't have this issue. The only issue I ever had was the north arrow would be a little off if the coordinate system was turned on when I first create and set the north arrow to the viewport. Other than that it works great for me.

Glad you have it working for you. I believe that this is a leftover from Land Desktop maybe even Softdesk and DCA. I believe it was associated with Base Point North Rotation. That was thankfully eliminated after a while.

Now I have been using the north arrow feature to get an arrow pointing in the correct direction, then use explode to change it into linework severing its link to the viewport so that the arrow will not randomly point in the wrong direction. If I batch plot while the arrows are still linked to the viewport, some of the arrows in the PDF will point in the correct direction, while other arrows just point north for paper space. Exploding the arrows gets rid of this issue.
