That's right in the style composer you set the "view direct" Plan, Profile, Section, Model and you can set the style independent of each other

Joe,

I think the OP issue is about having to use overrides to show pipes using a crossing style vs. showing it projected. As you know, you can't have a style that shows it in profile view both ways. The only way to make a pipe show both ways in profiles is to apply overrides, either projected or crossing. This has been the workflow for as long as I have been using the software. Are you saying there is now a way to have both without overrides? If so I would be thrilled to know about it.

Neil is correct; the pipe can only have one style assigned to it. When the pipe or a structure is presented in a profile view, there is a possibility to set up a specific style to overwrite the pipe style. It will then control the display of the pipe only in this specific profile view.

The recommended workflow would be to use styles that display the crossing in the "Style Override" column, only in specific situations when needed.

Refer to the following article for more details.

Pipes cannot be displayed in both perpendicular and parallel profile views at the same time in Civil 3D

Hi Neil

I am aware.

In my work flow the profiled pipe is the only one being described longitudinally. Agreed, when not the case it is troublesome

I did not get from the OP they had multiple longitudinal pipes to display

So one solution is to make a style that shows the pipes as crossings by default, since that is what you want in most cases. Then apply overrides when you need to show them protected. I think that is what Joe was suggesting.

Just a correction here.. It is possible to show the pipes "Crossing" and "Parallel" in a profile view.. However, I imagine the OP would like to automatically show them as crossing if there were running at a perpendicular angle to the alignment.. That would be a nice feature...

For anyone who is wondering where the "override" style is its in screen shot below. Kind of annoying to work out which one you want though. There is a little tick box to filter crossing but thats not always enough.
