Create data shortcuts of your original VFs and then reference them, along with the alignment(s), into a new file. In the new file, promote just the view frames. Once you've done that, remove them from the original file and then remove the data shortcuts.

Hello,

I have an alignment drawing that contains a view frame group and have already generated the sheets (100+). Is it possible (a workflow) to move the VF group to its own drawing and still retain the sheets?

Paul

Civil 3d 2024

You can create Data Shortcuts with View Frames.

The project manager would rather not have the VF's in the alignment drawing.

Thanks Adam, would your workflow mess anything up with the sheets that have already been generated? I have over 100 stand-alone sheet files that the PP tools created.

It should not. The sheets don't retain any links back to the view frames, which is why if you ever change the view frame locations you end up having to recreate the sheets.

This is one of the few cases where that missing link is a benefit 🙂
